There is reason for hope in Highstown, as there are a host of players on the team that have gained a ton of experience over these past few seasons and now are in a position to flip the script and add some more W’s to the win column. The players in this article give Peddie hope for a better outcomes in 2024, and I believe they will follow through it.
With size for the next level, Merritt Fisher is a QB that needs to get recognized ASAP. A 6’4″ quarterback I was not familiar with until now, Merritt has the potential to not only lead Peddie towards a winning record in 2024 but also take his talent to a college program that would be lucky enough to have him. Throwing for 628 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, Merritt has an absolute cannon for an arm. As he steps up in the pocket to evade the rush he can get the ball where it needs to be extremely quickly. Staying composed in the pocket in 2023, Merritt did an extraordinary job staying calm in the face of duress and throwing an on target and on time ball to his receivers. A player worth paying attention to, keep an eye on Peddie and Merritt come this fall.
Highlights
One of the top safeties in the state, Eric Cho Eric Cho 5’10” | 175 lbs | DB Peddie | 2025 State NJ is a smart, nimble defender in Peddie’s secondary that is always in a position to make a play on the ball. Staying low in his back peddle, Eric is able to turn and break quickly on the ball to cut off the crossing receiver and bat it down. A safety that closes in on the edge with speed, Eric is a technical tackler that can stifle the run any time they try to take it to the perimeter. Accumulating 63 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble last season, Eric is a worry for any opponent’s offensive scheme.
Highlights
Shawn Corchado
Shawn Corchado
One of the bigger targets to throw to on Peddie’s roster, Shawn Corchado is ready to step into a big role in 2024 and become a dominant downfield threat. The 6’1″ wide receiver has huge upside as his size allows him to outcompete the defender for the ball, especially when they are near the end zone. A sharp route runner, Shawn finds ways to get open and has the ability to get the defender turned around and running the wrong direction. Shawn will be on the receiving end of many pylon throws next fall.
A strong presence in the defensive unit, Nate Bush Nate Bush 6’1″ | 220 lbs | LB Peddie Prep | 2025 NJ commands the middle of the field with authority. A linebacker with great anticipation as well as ability to read the play, Nate seems to understand tendencies very well and trusts in his instincts to make a play on the ball carrier. Scraping laterally and changing direction quickly, Nate is able to sniff out the run by finding the weak spot in the line and darting through to blow up the play in the backfield. Nate is a linebacker you will find in on the tackle nearly every play.
Adekunle Olaniyi
Adekunle Olaniyi
Coming off of the line low and with speed, Peddie’s Adekunle Olaniyi is a DT we shall all become more familiar with. Built with strong hands and arms to gain leverage on a blocker, Adekunle is able to get under a lineman’s shoulder pads and drive them back into the backfield. Accumulating 2.5 sacks in 2023, Adekunle brings immediate pressure up the middle, forcing the QB to move out of the pocket and out of their comfort zone. Another one of those DTs that makes it extremely challenging for any offense to have success running up the middle, look for Adekunle to roadblock the runs in 2024.
