Mac Beason
Mac Beason
Beasley is a smooth operator at the QB spot and ended up being one of the more productive QBs in Alabama last year. Beasley is plenty equipped when it comes to his frame at 6’2 195. He is a good athlete for his size and uses his suddenness to evade pressure and create something out of nothing. His improv skills when the play breaks down generate highlight reel plays, but it also flashes his feel for the field and the ability to locate open receivers with his back turned the opposite way. He has a smooth, clean, level delivery and transfers his weight nicely while keeping his head steady. The ball easily buzzes out of his hand and arrives on time with good spin. He can switch up arm angles, throw off-platform, and layer throws in hard to reach spots. Simply put, there isn’t a throw on the field that he can’t make. On top of that, when the play breaks down, he can make things happen. He is a chain mover on every down and possesses FBS traits.
Garrett Burrough
Garrett Burrough
Garrett Burrough is a true dual-threat QB who accounted for over 3500 total yards last season, including over 1600 on the ground. Burrough has good speed and suddenness as a runner, quickly lifting into open spots on the field and jumping across defenders to stay upright and move forward. He does a good job of selling handoffs in the veer and option game, which opens up a massive hole for him to run through. As a passer, he coils and quickly delivers the ball from around his ear. He can layer the ball on the seam and efficiently place it on the sidelines. He flashes outstanding pocket presence, stepping into each throw and escaping through the pocket instead of immediately bailing at the first sign of pressure. Burrough is a playmaker, but he plays with good fundamentals as well.
Nelson Thompson
Nelson Thompson
During his first year as a varsity starter, Nelson Thompson showcased some solid gamesmanship and had a solid season to build on. He might not be the type of prospect that pops off the tape when it comes to measurables, athleticism, and arm talent. However, he is adequate enough in those categories when you factor in his feel for the field and touch. He is yet another prospect with a coiled release around his ear, allowing him to get on top of the ball and throw it with good spin. He can drop the ball in a bucket on the sidelines and on the seam, giving his WRs a great chance of coming down with the grab. On several throws, he brings his eyes across the field as he goes through progressions and can look off defenders. The gamesmanship he showed as a sophomore is intriguing, especially since he should add more athleticism and arm strength.
Coppedge is an athletic QB prospect that thrives off-script. He isn’t afraid to stand in the pocket and actually appears in rhythm while surveying the field, keeping his eyes and feet active. However, once pressure leaks through, he quickly scampers away and gets the scramble drill started. He will redirect plays and keep retreating if he has to, but ultimately does a good job of eventually working back up field before firing the football. When he tucks and runs, he has the speed to beat angles and quickly eat up grass once he fully opens up his stride. He has a quick, elastic release and can quickly cut the ball, even while off-platform. His arm talent isn’t elite, but he has enough to loft the ball into hard to reach spots. Coppedge is a gritty, athletic QB who will thrive in an offense that is willing to let him create.
Bryson McGrew
Bryson McGrew
McGrew is a stout, athletic QB prospect capable of making a big play on seemingly every snap. His game is built upon his running ability. At 6’1 205, he is built like an RB and isn’t afraid to drop his shoulder and welcome contact. He also showcases good vision and patience, finding open running lanes and quickly weaving into open running lanes. He possesses a long, wiry release and can put some velocity on the football. He isn’t afraid to make throws into tight windows and sometimes makes some dangerous throws. However, he frequently shows the ability to throw his WRs open and keep the ball away from DBs when attacking the deep part of the field. McGrew is raw and will need some seasoning, but he has D1 level athleticism and would be a high upside addition.
