Continue ReadingThe 2025 Rankings were updated to 125 total players ranked in the class back in January but many more are on the Watch List. These Watch List players will eventually enter the rankings in the future and are names we will be watching closely next season. Here are some RBs not currently in the rankings who you should keep an eye on in the fall.
Cameron junior running back Klypsan Wallace Klypsan Wallace 5’8″ | 180 lbs | RB Cameron | 2025 WV was a great addition to the Dragons’ backfield and program having made the short move from John Marshall last season. Wallace rushed for 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns on an 8-yard-per-carry average while helping lead the Dragons to the Class A playoff quarterfinals. He’s a very physical running back with a very good wrestling background that makes him a tough tackle at the small school level. Wallace will break the first, second, and third attempted tackles often and rarely goes down on first contact. I think his speed has steadily improved since he was starting at Class AAAA John Marshall as a freshman, and he’s developed into being able to break off longer runs without being caught from behind as time has gone on. Cameron will break in a new QB1 in 2024 for the first time in a long time, so the Dragons may lean on Wallace even harder next season which could allow him to eclipse the 2,000-yard rushing mark as a senior in the new Class A.
Special Honorable Mention All-MSAC performer Jaydan Green Jaydan Green 6’0″ | 240 lbs | RB South Charleston | 2025 WV of South Charleston makes his debut on our site after putting together a solid junior campaign for the Black Eagles. Green is a massive 6’0 240 classic power back who is a bit of a throwback type of player. He could likely play fullback at the college level at a program that heavily utilizes the position. Green plays the running back position exactly the way you’d imagine a RB his size would play it. He’s someone you’d hate to meet in the A and B gaps if you’re a linebacker and DBs will want no part of him. While he’s certainly not a burner, he gets his momentum going downhill quickly and moves well for his size. Green is a very good short-yardage back who’s going to fall forward every time. He’s one of the rare running backs I’ve evaluated who has shown clips of pass blocking in the backfield and that’s an area he can excel at. Green looks like someone who could bulk up and become a defensive lineman in the same mold as former South Charleston athlete Aaron Clark Aaron Clark 6’2″ | 280 lbs | DL Hurricane | 2024 State WV who also saw carries as a jumbo athlete. Green is an intriguing prospect whose ceiling will depend on how much bigger he gets but is certainly someone to keep tabs on next season.
Speaking of power backs, the Tolsia Rebels have one of their own in junior Bray Mollette Bray Mollette 5’9″ | 225 lbs | RB Tolsia | 2025 WV . The 5’9 225 bowling ball rushed for 500 yards and 3 touchdowns this season while contributing 23 tackles on defense. He’s a fun small school player to watch as he rumbles downfield and runs through smaller defenders. For someone his size, Mollette can get out in space and pick up some chunk yards and averaged over 7 yards per carry. He’s another power back who can likely play fullback in college and gets reps there in high school too. I’d love to see clips of him blocking to show even more versatility on film. Mollette is excellent on FB dives when they line him up there, and he’s quite nimble for his size. Tolsia has a fun group of returning players to work with in the new Class A next season and is a potential dark horse at the small school level.
Transitioning back to scatbacks, Man 2025 RB Corey Morgan Corey Morgan 5’10” | 160 lbs | RB Man | 2025 WV is another name to know at the Class A level in 2024. He’s one of many backs who will see carries in their offense next season and can provide a speed option for the Hillbillies who can get to the corner for chunk plays. He also showed he’s not afraid to run between the tackles either and runs hard for a smaller running back. Even with 5’10 160 size, Morgan can brush off tacklers at times and fights for extra yards. He has a nice burst and hits the hole hard and can be dangerous when he gets out in space. I’d like to see him get loose more during his senior year and show the ability to hit explosive runs on a more frequent and consistent basis. Morgan has the speed and quickness to be able to do so while also having the elusiveness to further aid him in that regard.
Another unfortunate injury story last season was Roane County’s Shay Harper Shay Harper 6’1″ | 175 lbs | RB Roane County | 2025 State WV . Harper was primed for a huge breakout junior season after being very productive in 2022 as a sophomore where he rushed for 683 yards and 10 touchdowns and earned Class AA Second Team All-State DB honors. The 6’1 175 RB/LB will hopefully bounce back in 2024 for his senior season and should be a two-way standout for the Beavers. Roane County loses 2024 Top 100 athlete Brandon Richardson Brandon Richardson 5’7″ | 170 lbs | DB Roane County | 2024 State WV to graduation this year after stepping up big at the running back position, so Harper should slide right back in at that position and start where he left off as a sophomore. His ceiling as a linebacker may be even higher and could eventually move to that spot in our rankings next season. Harper is a quality and natural all-around athlete who possesses good speed while also being a hard runner typical of a player his size. If Harper makes a full recovery without losing any of the athleticism he showed as a sophomore, he can be one of the top two-way players in the new Class AA next season and should rank highly in the final 2025 rankings.
