All of the players on this list have signed their names on the dotted line during the early signing period, declaring their college homes for the next four years. Each of these players head to their college campuses with high expectations. Just like the game of checkers, pieces make moves, leveling up until they are crowned king. This group of Top 5 Ranked class of 2024 players have balled out their entire careers. Let’s talk about the Top 5 Ranked players in the class of 2024 for this PRZ Texas update.
Lagway left no doubt during his senior season that he was the best player in Texas, as well as in the nation. DJ was a one man wrecking crew in 2023, he struck defenses through the air, on the ground, running over and around his opponents, while leading Willis to their best record since 1994 and he lead them to an undefeated regular season. Lagway is an elite passer, who can make all of the throws on the route tree, he has the arm talent to push the football deep down field with touch or thread the needle into tight coverage windows. His ability to make off platform throws from multiple arm angles enables him to attack even while under pressure. Lagway is freight train of a runner with breakaway speed, he is athletic, with some juice in space that can make defenders miss in the open field and he has the pocket presence to elude the rush, using his feet as an added weapon offensively. DJ finished up his senior season with Willis, by leading them on their deepest playoff run since the 90’s, losing to eventual state champ Desoto and took home the National Gatorade Player of the Year award. He set the single record for touchdown passes in Texas with 59 touchdowns, throwing for 4,605 yards, completing 72% of his passes and he rushed for 953 yards and 16 touchdowns. Lagway is the number one player in the class of 2024 and he enrolled early at the University of Florida, ready to take the reins in Gainesville.
Highlights
Durham has carved up defenses for three years as a starter at Duncanville and is the most dangerous playmaker out of the backfield in the state of Texas. Caden’s sprinter speed is next level but he is not just a speed back, he has a stout, muscular frame, he runs with power between the tackles and his ability to keep his pad level low enables him to break arm tackles with ease. When Caden gets to the second level it’s a wrap. A nationally ranked sprinter, Durham’s burst in the open field allows him to separate quickly. During Durham’s three year run at Duncanville, he helped lead the Panthers to back to back state titles. The LSU signee put up outstanding numbers, rushing for 4,636 yards with 78 touchdowns leaving no doubt that he is number running back in the state of Texas.
Highlights
Simmons is a force off the edge, his initial burst and first step off of the ball are next level, he has a non stop motor and he is the best closer on the football in the state of Texas. Colin has the flexibility to contort his body to dip and rip past blockers while using an array of moves, allowing him to cause havoc no matter where he lines up. The leader of a Duncanville Panther defense that won back to back state championships, Simmons recorded 22.5 sacks as junior. The Texas signee is an early enrollee who will no doubt hit the ground running when he touches down in Austin.
Hudson is one of the most dynamic players in the state of Texas with the football in hands. A skillful route runner, who is phone booth quick, enabling him to create separation early off of the line of scrimmage and Hudson is one of the most dangerous weapons in the open field. Micah’s elite body control to adjust to the football mid flight, makes him one of the most challenging receivers to cover. His stellar career at Lake Belton was phenomenal, with 3,885 yards receiving, 47 touchdown catches and 1,243 yards rushing and 11 rushing touchdowns, the Texas Tech signee left no doubt he is a top 5 player in the state of Texas.
Bussey is electric with the football in his hands. Nicknamed, “Touchdown Terry”, Terry is a touchdown waiting to happen when he steps on the field. During his time at Timpson, Bussey played quarterback for Timpson, he was a lethal weapon who can get the job done with his arm, he makes throws on time and in rhythm and Terry has good touch on his deep ball. Bussey’s high level offensive production at Timpson puts him in a category of his own. He passed in his career for 5,981 yards and 76 touchdowns, his rushing numbers were 5,361 yards and 93 touchdowns and he also was just as dominant defensively for Timpson at defensive back. Bussey finished out his historic career by leading Timpson to a state title in 2023. Terry is committed to Texas A&M.
