Heritage Hall senior standout and Oklahoma signee Andy Bass Andy Bass 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK has another accolade to add to his impressive high school career. Bass is our choice for the best football player in the state of Oklahoma this season. He’s the 2023 PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year. He’s the fourth winner of the award in our website’s history and coincidentally, he’s the first quarterback and the first senior to be named the award winner. The previous three winners were all junior running backs.
Here’s what we wrote about Bass when we named the ten finalists for the award last month.
“Heritage Hall senior and Oklahoma signee Andy Bass Andy Bass 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK made it very clear early on this season that he was one of Oklahoma’s best football players. He helped guide the Chargers back to the Class 3A state championship game to defend their 2022 title. Unfortunately, Bass would go down with a torn ACL early on in the second half and that deflated their attempt at a second straight title. Bass would still have a very memorable season with over 4,500 yards of total offense and 66 touchdowns. He threw for over 3,100 yards and 35 touchdowns and he also added nearly 1,500 yards and 30 touchdowns on the ground. Every time we saw Bass in person, he was absolutely unstoppable. Even in the state title game, he was dominating with 300 yards of total offense and all four Heritage Hall touchdowns before his knee ultimately gave out. Bass was really good as a junior but he elevated his game to becoming one of Oklahoma’s best overall players during his senior season.”
The ultimate “what if” question from the 2023 season is what happens in the 3A title game if Bass doesn’t go down with the knee injury. At the time, it looked like we were on the verge of getting an all time instant classic between the Chargers and eventual champion Lincoln Christian.
As mentioned, Bass was absolutely electric from the very first game of the season. he put the team on his back countless times and exceeded everyone’s expectations coming into this season. As a junior, Bass was really good but as a senior, he became great. He’s one of the best overall athletes in the state of Oklahoma and when we look back on the 2023 season, he’ll be known for being the state’s best football player.
