Sonnenberg took home RB MVP honors in his second appearance at the PRZ CA Showcase this past Sunday. He was a top performer at April’s event and continued to show his strong receiving skillset out of the backfield during Sunday’s 1v1s. He’s a compact back with obvious lateral agility and quickness. He’s an advanced route-runner for his position that showed ability to separate with burst out of his breaks against slower moving LBs and finished with soft, natural hands as pass catcher. Sonnenberg would be a solid 2024 pick up for any D-III programs looking for skilled receivers out of the backfield.
Highlights
McKevitt stood out as one of the top overall athletes at Sunday’s event, finishing with the top overall 40 time of the day and at the top of every testing category among the RBs. His athleticism noticeably translated to individual drills and 1v1s where he showed quick, twitchy change-of-direction and superior speed when lined up over LBs. He was the second-leading rusher for Laguna Hills last season with 700 yards and 7 TDs on 93 carries as a junior. McKevitt’s an under-the-radar FCS-potential prospect that should be a major stock riser on the recruiting trail this fall.
Highlights
Nguyen was one of the few top performers from NorCal at Sunday’s event. He’s a slick, shifty mover with great foot speed/quickness and stop-start agility. He performed well in testing finishing in the top-5 of every category and proved to be a tough cover for LBs in 1v1s. On tape, he’s a crafty playmaker with the ball in his hands that possesses the speed to get to the edge and displays strong balance through contact. Nguyen led Santa Clara in rushing last season with nearly 900 yards and 6 TDs as a senior.
Walz finished as one of the top performing RBs after showing a well-rounded skillset out of the backfield on Sunday. He performed well in the testing portion posting top-5 numbers in every category among the position group and showed a developing receiving skillset in 1v1s. On film, he’s a balanced runner that reads his blocks well at the LOS and flashes deceptive built-up speed in the open field. Walz, who also played SS as a junior, recorded 300 yards and 5 TDs out of the backfield last season.
Highlights
DePerno stood out as having the most college-ready frame and build out of the RB group measuring in at 5’9”/200. He’s a powerful athlete that showed explosive tendencies in his short-range movement, recording the second-best numbers in the shuttle (4.4s) and L-Drill (7.24s) among the RBs. On tape, he hits the hole hard at the first level, moves extremely fluid with the ball in his hands, and sustains churning leg drive through contact. DePerno was the leading playmaker for West Ranch’s offense last season, posting over 1,100 rushing yards and 20 TDs as a junior.
