Armenta, renowned for his exemplary leadership skills and pinpoint accuracy on long throws, spent the fall semester on the UNM campus and served as a true freshman backup quarterback for the Lobos.
However, the decision to fire head coach Danny Gonzales within hours after the season finale (a double OT loss to Utah State) on Nov. 24 changed everything. On New Years Day, Armenta announced he had entered the transfer portal.
About 10 days after Gonzales was dismissed, Lobos offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent was named head coach at Louisiana-Monroe, a Sun Belt Conference program.
Vincent clearly didn’t forget about Armenta as he offered him a scholarship with the Warhawks.
Armenta embraced the opportunity to be reunited with Vincent. He committed to ULM on Friday, beginning a new chapter in his promising college football career.
