The top rusher in NJ from the 2027 class, Karon Ceasar Karon Ceasar 5’11” | 165 lbs | ATH Penns Grove | 2027 State NJ is ready to become a household name within the state. Rushing for 1085 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2023, the Penns Grove running back is a strong runner that is able to drive his knees through arm tackles with ease. A speedster as well, Karon darts through the hole and can get to the second level very quickly. A dominant defender as well, Karon is a true “do it all” athlete for Penns Grove.

Another stud from Glassboro, this program has arguably the most talented underclassmen team in the state, especially when you add Davon Barr Davon Barr 6’0″ | 190 lbs | RB Glassboro | 2027 State NJ to that list of exceptional talent. Another freshman that is already built like a senior, Davon keeps his legs moving as he runs through and bounces off defenders. And with a quick burst out of the backfield, Davon displays break away speed once he gets to open field. Rushing the ball for 692 yards and 3 touchdowns last fall, Davon is ready to become a 1000 yard rusher in 2024.

St. John-Vianney may have one of the most talented running backs in the 2027 class. With a deadly combination of vision, strength and balance, Abdul Turay Abdul Turay 5’10” | 170 lbs | RB St. John Vianney | 2027 State NJ showed the state that he is a runner every defense needs to worry about. It is hard to believe Abdul was only a freshman in 2023. With the way he ran over defenders, you would have thought this was an seasoned veteran carrying the ball. A running and receiving threat, Abdul found the end zone 7 times on offense and ran for another 691 yards. Keep a close eye on Abdul next fall.

A powerful running back for his age, Patrick Carlisle became a reliable goal line runner for Bernards last season. Running the ball in 8 times, it’s obvious the team believes in his abilities anytime they are near the endzone. And with 350 yards on the ground, Patrick also displayed bursts of speed once he got past the line. Patrick will surely shine these next fews season when he begins handling more volume in Bernards offense.

Haddon Heights is the last team on the list that has an extremely talented freshman runner on their roster. Cinque Matthews Cinque Matthews 5’8″ | 175 lbs | DL Haddon Heights | 2027 NJ ran the ball into the endzone 7 times in 2023 and also amasses 383 rushing yards. Haddon Heights had a very success 2023 season, as they went 7-4 and made it to the semifinals round in the south. The younger brother of Haason Reddick, Cinque will become the lead back in 2024 and a player that will draw a lot of attention.
