Here is a look at four athletes who jumped up into the Top 25 for the first time or moved up a couple of rungs on the rankings ladder.
Nick Philhour Jr. Nick Philhour Jr. 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Mill Valley | 2026 State KS , OL, 6’3”, 275, Mill Valley
Philhour is Mill Valley’s blind-side protecting tackle. He plays with excellent pad level and has solid lateral movement. He can get to the second level when running blocking. The Jaguar sophomore moved into the top 20 at No. 15. He was ranked No. 27 in the previous rankings.
Devyn Davis Devyn Davis 6'1" | 250 lbs | DL Bishop Miege | 2026 State KS , DL, 6’0”, 250, Bishop Miege (Pictured Above)
Davis climbed up seven spots from No. 23 to No. 16. He is an explosive defensive lineman who wreaks havoc on the opposition’s run game. He gets off the ball well and plays with a low platform. He can beat double teams and be disruptive in the backfield. He recorded 22.5 total tackles during his sophomore season. Three of those tackles went for lost yardage. He also finished 1.5 quarterback sacks and hurried quarterbacks four times.
Dalton Hornback Dalton Hornback 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Derby | 2026 State KS , DL, 6’1”, 215, Derby
Hornback made a big jump up the rankings. He is currently ranked No. 19 after previously being ranked at No. 41. He can play in the interior or on the edge. The Panthers played with a three-man defensive front last season and he played DE in the majority of time. He has a nice combination of size and speed. He is equally effective as a pass rusher and a run-stopper. Hornback racked up 70 tackles during his sophomore season and finished with five quarterback sacks.
Drake Mellies Drake Mellies 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Jackson Heights | 2026 State KS , ATH, 5’8”, 150, Jackson Heights
One player who parlayed his sophomore season production into a large ranking increase was the Cobras’ Mellies. The Jackson Heights sophomore moved up 41 positions from No. 65 to No. 24. He is a dual-threat quarterback who could change positions based on the Cobras’ needs. He rushed for 1,232 yards and 21 touchdowns in 10 games played. During his sophomore season, he also threw for 640 yards and three touchdowns. He also made six receptions for 113 yards and two scores. It will be interesting to see how he gets utilized and evolves over the next two seasons.
