St. Thomas Aquinas Wins 5th Straight

TALLAHASSEE - Ever since head coach Roger Harriott and his Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas football team lost to California power St. John Bosco in the Broward County Football Showcase to start the season, the weekly focus was to end up in Tallahassee.
On Saturday at Bragg Memorial Stadium on the campus of Florida A&M University, the Raiders finished off the season with another 3Metro title, and a record-setting fifth consecutive state crown.
This football program, which continues to set standards came away with a competitive 31-28 in against fellow south Florida program, Homestead, for the second straight year, shining a spotlight on the type of football that is played in the #954 and #305. They notched their state best 15th title.
Along with Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M) and Miami Christopher Columbus (4M), the Raiders brought home titles.
The Raiders scored first when Francesco Pileggi booted a 22-yard field goal with 5:27 left in the first quarter.
St. Thomas Aquinas added to the lead when [player_tooltip player_id='1322329' first='Andrew' last='Indorf'] found [player_tooltip player_id='404267' first='Jordan' last='Lyle'] from 17 yards out and a 10-0 advantage at the 2:42 mark of the first quarter.
The Raiders took a 17-0 halftime lead when Lyle took it in from the 2.
The Broncos broke through at the 4:11 mark of the third quarter when senior Joshua Townsend found [player_tooltip player_id='404164' first='Isaac' last='Brown'] for a 17-yard score and a 17-7 game.
Homestead moved one step closer with 2:31 remaining in the third quarter at 17-14.
The Raiders came right back with 1:33 left when [player_tooltip player_id='1322329' first='Andrew' last='Indorf'] found [player_tooltip player_id='735246' first='Julius' last='Jones'] from 48 yards and a 24-14 lead.
The Broncos once again cut into the Raiders' lead when Townsend found Brown from 43-yards out and a 24-21 advantage.
With 5:25 left in the game, Indorf once again delivered a 69-yard scoring pass to Andreus Madison and a 31-21 lead. With just over two minutes to go, Homestead got back to within a field goal on a Townsend 17-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 31-28. It ended up being the last time they would get the ball as Aquinas ran the clock out after a failed onside kick would seal things.
