Today, I will focus on players to watch from the B Division: Bishop Timon-St. Jude, Cardinal O’Hara and St. Mary’s.
A two year Varsity starter since his Freshman season in 2022, Anzalone led the Tigers to back-to-back B Division titles. Dominic has a 14-4 record as Timon’s starting Quarterback, accumulating 2,673 passing yards and 30 TDs, including a league leading 20 touchdowns in 2023. He possesses great arm strength and a quick release but his ability to throw on the run, whether it is to get away from pressure or a designed bootleg, is remarkable. Given his size (6’1 205 lbs), Dominic Anzalone Dominic Anzalone 6’1″ | 205 lbs | QB Bishop Timon-St. Jude | 2026 State NY has the stature to stand in the pocket and take on pressure; with 2 years left to go in his High School career, sky is the limit for this young man.
Highlights
WR Gerald McCloud Gerald McCloud ATH Bishop Timon-St. Jude | 2025 State NY was Anzalone’s #1 target in 2022 & 2023. A 3 year starter at Timon, McCloud has led the Tigers in Receiving in every season, compiling a career stat line of 71 receptions for 1,158 yards and 9 TDs. A great athlete, McCloud has proven to be a dependable runner, carrying the ball 41 times for 215 yards and 3 TDs. Gerald also excelled on defense as a Free Safety, racking up 104 tackles and seemingly always around the ball, he brought in a team high 10 interceptions and 5 fumble recoveries over the last three years. Numbers aside, Gerald McCloud Gerald McCloud ATH Bishop Timon-St. Jude | 2025 State NY has all the tools to compete at the next level. He has incredible vision, tremendous hands and the incomparable ability to track the ball down in the air. This is a special player that will have the opportunity to play college ball.
Brandon Burr
Brandon Burr
A two year varsity player, Brandon Burr, after being used sparingly as a Freshman, took on more of an active role in his Sophomore season. Somewhat of a “jack of all trades”, Burr played Running Back, Wide Receiver and Kick Returner. But it was defense where he made the most influence, recording 27 tackles, 2 INTs and a fumble recovery as a Cornerback. Brandon also successfully made 25 Extra Points as the team’s Kicker. Brandon Burr’s usage with Cardinal O’Hara has increased over the last two years and with their 2023 roster composed of predominantly Seniors, there will be plenty of opportunities for Burr to shine as a Junior in 2024.
Gabe Kelichner
Gabe Kelichner
As a Left Guard, Kelichner was a massive presence, standing at 6’3 & 310 lbs. He has the size and physicality needed to be a dominate lineman. Gabe registered 25 pancake blocks and anchored an Offensive Line that ran for 177 yards per game in 2023. Gabe Kelichner has a great get off and blocks to the whistle every play. With excellent footwork, he has the ability to reach the second level and drive opposing defenders down field. Gabe proved to be a force on the Defensive Line as well, making the Western New York All Catholic Team as a Defensive Tackle. He displayed superb aggression, registering 37 tackles (5 for loss) and 2 fumble recoveries in 10 games as a Junior. Kelichner also showed superior athleticism by adding 2 blocked punts to his resume. With his senior year coming in 2024, Kelichner is sure to be in the conversation as a Trench Trophy award winner, given to Western New York’s best lineman.
Logan Gray
Logan Gray
A two-way starter at St. Mary’s, Logan Gray showed to to be a bright spot on a team that struggled to win in 2023. Listed at 6’2 190 lbs, Gray looks and plays like he is a lot bigger. As a Tight End and Middle Linebacker, Logan displayed excellent football instincts, good footwork and an undeniable determination to make a play. He made the Western New York All Catholic Team as a TE. His route running was good but his physical stature made it very difficult for defenders to cover or bring him down once he caught the ball. Gray was placed all over the offense; on the line as traditional TE, in the slot to spread out the defense and in the backfield like a Fullback. Wherever he was located, he was sure to be a big target for St. Mary’s Quarterback. Hopefully, St. Mary’s football team will get on track in 2024 and Logan Gray can get the recognition he deserves as a Senior.
Israel Wilson
Israel Wilson
Another Western New York All Catholic Team member, Israel Wilson led St. Mary’s in Rushing, Receiving and Kick Returns as a Sophomore in 2023. Blessed with speed and quickness, Wilson has a unique ability to stop and start in an effort to dodge to defenders, a trait he seemed to perform with ease. Even when the ball did not go to Israel, he displayed great selflessness by running down the field and delivering blocks for his teammates. Wilson will be a Junior in 2024 so he will have 2 more season to prefect his talents and put St. Mary’s back in to MMHSAA relevance.
