After a week of featuring some of the passers in Kansas, it's time to look at athletes who beat teams with their legs.

There are numerous running backs and quarterbacks that had great seasons. So many that I have decided to break the following reports down by school classification and will limit them to players who rushed for at least 1,000 yards.

I am sure I will miss some as not all teams make their stats public and players who fell short of the 1,000-yard mark I will try to feature later down the road.

This first report looks at athletes from Class 6A programs who reached the century mark in yards gained on the ground.

[player_tooltip player_id='415284' first='Bryce' last='Noernberg'], QB, 5'10”, 165, Olathe South, ‘24

Noernberg rushed for 1,520 yards in 10 games played and scored 31 touchdowns on the ground. He also threw the ball well in 2023 throwing for 1,173 and completing 63 percent of his pass attempts. He is a dangerous runner on the edge and works hard for every extra yard.

[player_tooltip player_id='1112377' first='Carter' last='Aslin'], QB, 6'0”, 170, Manhattan, ‘25

Manhattan fought valiantly all season in its 6A state title defense. Aslin took the snaps for the Indians and rushed for 1,414 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games played. He also threw for 908 yards and eight touchdowns. Aslin has breakaway speed and sees the field well. He can beat teams with his arm or legs.

[player_tooltip player_id='145512' first='Derek' last='Hubbard'], RB, 5'8”, 165, Derby, ‘24

Hubbard helped guide the Panthers to the Class 6A state title game. He gained 1,226 yards in 13 games played. He scored 15 touchdowns on the ground and caught three balls for touchdowns. Hubbard is most dangerous running outside of the tackles. He has great hands and would be a solid addition to a college program that wants to throw to its running backs.

[player_tooltip player_id='545364' first='TJ' last='Porter'], RB, 5'6”, 155, Olathe North, ‘24

Porter scored 22 touchdowns and rushed for 1,206 yards in nine games played. He also made 20 total receptions and three of them ended in touchdowns. Porter, like Hubbard, was featured in a one-back offense that spreads the field. He hits the open hole quickly and can run away from would-be tacklers. Porter also will be a big-time weapon on special teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='259779' first='Sage' last='Huffman'], RB, 5'9”, 185, Blue Valley West, ‘24

Huffman is the most physical runner in this group. She has solid hands and is a threat to catch balls out of the backfield. He also does a nice job of picking up blocks when he needs to. The Jaguar senior rushed for 1,193 yards on a workman-like effort of 227 carries. He rushed for 16 touchdowns in nine games played and scored three more in the passing game.

[player_tooltip player_id='585903' first='Aaron' last='Bohannon Jr.'], RB, 5'6”, 170, Wichita Northwest, ‘26

Bohannon is an explosive sophomore with a high ceiling. He rushed for 1,129 yards in nine games played and scored 12 times on the ground. He made 14 receptions for 241 yards and scored twice. He shared backfield duties with [player_tooltip player_id='146115' first='Cencere' last='Thompson']. If he stays healthy look for him to increase his numbers the next two seasons, and possibly even make a run at recording a 2,000-yard season.

[player_tooltip player_id='733502' first='Banks' last='Bowen'], QB, 6'3”, 190, Lawrence, ‘25

Bowen is a dual-threat quarterback who could transition to any number of positions moving forward. He rushed for 1,017 yards in 10 games played, while also rushing for 1,676 yards. He scored 26 total touchdowns evenly split between the rushing and passing variety.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115487' first='Max' last='Armstrong'], RB/LB, 5'10”, 190, Olathe South, ‘25

The Falcons have a young back who just reached the 1,000-yard mark with four yards to spare. In 10 games he rushed for seven touchdowns. His Hudl package highlights his work on defense. In 10 games he recorded 69 total tackles from his outside linebacker spot.

The following running backs rushed for over 800 yards but fell short of the 1,000-yard threshold. [player_tooltip player_id='670887' first='John' last='Price'] (Blue Valley), [player_tooltip player_id='1098715' first='Nate' last='Livingston'] (Blue Valley North), [player_tooltip player_id='1105467' first='Judah' last='Jones'] (Shawnee Mission North), [player_tooltip player_id='146115' first='Cencere' last='Thompson'] (Wichita Northwest), and Wichita Heights' [player_tooltip player_id='1109194' first='Jameson' last='Holland'].
