CAYCE | [player_tooltip player_id='996915' first='Dirrick' last='Goodman'] walked off the field a few weeks ago with disappointment after South Florence dropped the Class 4A state championship game to Westside.

In the High School Blitz senior All-Star game Saturday afternoon, Goodman had a much different outcome. He was the game MVP after his two pick 6's helped the East squad to a 28-7 victory over the West team.

“It was a lot better today than it was in the state championship,” Goodman said. “This is a much better way to end my high school career.”

This was an opportunity for high school seniors that didn't make the Shrine Bowl or Touchstone Energy Cooperative North-South Game to play one final time and possibly receive college offers for the February signing period. Several of the players had already signed while several others in the game were waiting.

Defense ruled the day. Goodman, who is going to Old Dominion, scored his two touchdowns and Dillon's [player_tooltip player_id='1056203' first='Sirmod' last='McCallum'] opened things with a 35-yard interception return for a score less than three minutes into the contest. The East team then scored its only offensive touchdown of the day early in the second quarter. Camden's [player_tooltip player_id='139311' first='Grayson' last='White'] connected with [player_tooltip player_id='997401' first='Evan' last='Daniels'] (Goose Creek) on a 41-yard strike with 11:42 before the break.

Goodman got into the act first with a 65-yard pick six with 6:10 remaining that gave the East team a 21-0 lead.

It looked like that would be the score until the half but a late miscue by the East turned into the only score of the day for the West. [player_tooltip player_id='267456' first='Harrison' last='Jeffries'] from Powdersville stepped into a errant pass and returned it 20 yards to make it a 21-7 East advantage at the break. Jeffries had two interceptions on the day.

Goodman sealed things with a 60-yard interception return for a TD with 12:48 remaining.

The East had a defensive front that included Javon Rouse (Berkeley), Joshua Calvin (Conway) and [player_tooltip player_id='589017' first='Javion' last='Lammie'] (Crestwood). The West team never really had an answer for them as they pressured the QB all day. Rouse, Calvin and Lammie all recorded sacks. White, who had a stellar prep career at Camden as a quarterback but who will play defense in college, also added a sack in the second half.

Defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='208354' first='Chantwan' last='Harkless'] (South Florence) also had a solid afternoon. He dropped a couple of interception opportunities but defended well and disrupted the West offense at every turn. [player_tooltip player_id='1142870' first='Jahmir' last='Edwards'] (Trinity Collegiate) also recorded an interception for the East team.

The West Team only allowed one offensive touchdown. The linebacker group of Bryce Nutall (Dutch Fork), [player_tooltip player_id='1142605' first='Joaquan' last='Howze'] (Lewisville) and [player_tooltip player_id='997363' first='Landon' last='Armstrong'] (Rock Hill) played well. King Dowdle (Gaffney) recovered a fumble for the West team. Howze was the leading tackler with seven stops.
