While I was very impressed with the crowds from both schools this was a one-sided contest. For the second year in a row Freedom had little to no problem pulling away from Madison before halftime, leading the Warhawks 41-7 heading into the break. With the final score ended up 55-14 it was clear from early on that the Eagles are on a different level competition wise. Will their highly anticipated matchup with Highland Springs fair any different, will have to see next Saturday. I will have game preview breakdown later this week, but wanted to add a few thoughts to the players below:
It is a shame for Evans as he is being degraded by major college recruiters because of size and talent around him. While yes he is no more than 6 feet tall and yes the talent around him are allstars, but he didnt become Virginia all time leading passer by accident, the dude can play. Once again he was errorless in their route over Madison throwing for 3 touchdowns and breaking the state touchdown record early in the third quarter. Watching him in person you can see the presence he holds among his teammates his leadership qualities really stand out. Personally I think it is only a matter of time until more division 2/fcs schools start offering, as he marches onward to back to back state titles, the offers might explode.
Highlights
On a team that is loaded in nearly every position, the secondary for Freedom may be the deepest group. They showed that again on Saturday shutting down Madison’s explosive offense including top receiver Cord Yates Cord Yates 5’9″ | 160 lbs | WR James Madison | 2024 State VA . Junior defensive back Jachaisax Hughes Jachaisax Hughes 5’8″ | 145 lbs | DB Freedom | 2025 VA had himself a day as he and the Eagles secondary had the Warhawks playmakers on lockdown. Hughes had 1 interception with tight knit coverage and was close to grabbing a couple more on the afternoon, he was electric. With the hype of a few of his classmates it cannot be understated that this young man may already be the best defensive back in the state. He is an excellent student who is sure to have more FBS level offers coming soon.

Another uncommitted Senior for the Eagles is receiver/linebacker Aaron “Jackpot” Duncan and he showed out this past weekend. While I believe his position in college will be at safety or linebacker, he made a number of plays from his receiver position too. In fact it was on a trick play where Duncan threw a near 60 yard bomb to Juju Preston that kept Evans from breaking the touchdown record earlier in the game. Oh well the play was more about showing the versatility this young man possesses. Expect many division 2 and fcs schools after the transfer portal is settled to make one pitch to this two-way star.
Annnnnd another major prospect has made his destination public for Coach Overton’s squad, junior receiver/defensive back Carleton “Juju” Preston will be attending Clemson in 2025! I can tell you first hand that the Tigers will not be disappointed this young man has a chance to play their early. Preston was uncoverable not only Saturday but most of the season, he certainly made the right choice in remaining home with Freedom (he was set to transfer last year). His patience was awarded as Clemson was in attendance for his game including the offensive coordinator!

Enough about Freedom they have more accolades coming, now onto Madison’s Luke Jarvis Luke Jarvis 6’2″ | 210 lbs | LB James Madison | 2024 VA . Been a big fan of his for close to a year now and Saturday I got see up close and I thought he played well. It seemed clear early on that Freedom was just better and they had their masterful running attack behind Jeff Overton Jr. going early. What impressed me the most about Jarvis was not his team high 10 tackles, but that he was not the least bit intimidated by the daunting task in front of him. It seemed almost every play defensively he was in on the tackle, whether it was in the backfield or sprinting down the field I could always see number 10 lurking. An outstanding senior season capping off a great career for the Warhawks, Jarvis recruiting should start to pick up. He has the size, speed and athleticism to play linebacker at the least for a division 2 school.
