For those that are not aware the Springers moved up from Class 5 after last season and they are traditional power who does not back down from anyone. The game lived up to the hype as the Eagles clinched back to back state championships with a 42-34 victory. Congrats to Coach Overton and his staff for the hard work they have put into this program, Freedom-Woodbridge has become a powerhouse that has no sights on slowing down anytime soon. Here are standouts from the title game below:
A big reason why the Springers were able to get back into this game on multiple occasions was the play out of Maryland Commit Khristian Martin Khristian Martin 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Highland Springs | 2024 State VA . He showed why he was one of the most sought after quarterbacks in the DMV with his performance on Saturday, he is the real deal. On numerous occasion his squad was down multiple scores and they could of easily packed it in and went home. Martin and company have been a state power for many reasons and their resiliency was on full display in Charlottesville. Accounting for three passing and one rushing score the pro-style quarterback was a warrior until the final whistle. Facing perhaps the best secondary in the state this was his biggest challenge to date and despite the loss I would say he passed the test.

Kam Courtney
Kam Courtney
What a way for this young man to put a bow on what has been a fabulous career for the Freedom Eagles. Each time Highland Springs would get to within arms reach, it was Courtney stepping in to stop their momentum. On the day the Indiana commit had 2 receiving touchdowns, 1 interception and big fourth down conversion, whenever the Eagles needed a play Courtney was the guy doing the honors. A tremendous way for him to finish out his all-state career, question for him is does he stay committed to Indiana or open up his services elsewhere?
One of the reasons why many people believe Freedom has a big change at a state title three peat is the elite level of play by guys like Jachaisax Hughes Jachaisax Hughes 5’8″ | 145 lbs | DB Freedom | 2025 VA . The dynamic defensive back had a 38 yard interception returned for a score on Saturday, he is a FBS level corner in case you were wondering. You have to admire Freedom’s secondary as a whole, any bad throw they are likely to get their hands on the ball.

Beginning to see why many people are bullish on Brent Pry and his Hokies turning it around and nabbing big time in state recruits like Noah Jenkins Noah Jenkins 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB Highland Springs | 2024 State VA are a big reason why. Hauling in two touchdown receptions this past weekend, the Virginia Tech commit is a must watch anytime he touches the football. Jenkins showed off his speed and burst especially with the ball in his hands, makes more sense why many FBS level schools were hoping to land him.

I have talked to you all about Jeffrey Overton Jeffrey Overton 5’10” | 165 lbs | WR Freedom | 2025 VA Jr. and he once again was the star of the show gashing the Springers defense all afternoon. Has to be mentioned that Overton Jr. has a chance to not only be the highest ranked back in Virginia but the entire country. It is incredible when you think about everything this young man has accomplished so far and then you realize he is only a junior.

Highlights
Eric Byrd
Eric Byrd
Sophomore Eric “EB” Byrd is well on his way to becoming a division 1 running back and he picked another major offer just before their title game. While the Springers may be heartbroken over their defeat, Byrd is a major reason why they should be excited about their future. He is a powerful explosive running back and has great vision, expect to hear his name for years to come in Class 6. A student of the game he has a 3.5 GPA, no reason not to believe that Virginia can have the highest ranked backs for both the classes of 2025 and 2026.
