It took 51 years for Sarasota Cardinal Mooney to play for a state football championship. Are the Cougars here to stay?

After beating Ocala Trinity Catholic for a state title at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee last week, head coach and alum Jared Clark believe that they have things right where they want them.

The Cougars finished 12-2 with six consecutive wins to finish off what was indeed a banner season.

Down the stretch – in the playoffs – this team received plenty of recognition, especially in Tallahassee where several seniors stepped into the spotlight. But what about 2024? With several gifted 2024 prospects moving on, who will step in from 2025, 2026, 2027 and even in the incoming freshman class?

The rising class of 2025 will include some linemen on both sides of the ball with Jake Boydston (OL), J.P. Gilson (DL), [player_tooltip player_id='829528' first='Chris' last='McCorkle'] (Athlete), Rocco Rell (DE), Scott Silva (DE) and versatile Brady Smith (OL/DL).

2026 CLASS IS LOADED

If you want to talk future, how about the rising junior class where Duke Bergstrom (OLB), Liam Bowers (PK), [player_tooltip player_id='1583347' first='Macaiden' last='Brown'] (FS), Bryce Fulda (DE), Joshua Henderson (WR), Grady Hillerich (FB), Wayne Hossenlopp (TE), Mason Jordan (WR) and Graham Maramag (DB) are more than solid.

Also, one of the many heroes in the state title game, quarterback Devin Mignery returns along with Bo O'Daniel (WR), Blake Rouland (DE), Zach Russell (DB/WR), Ethan Salata (OL), Harrison Schenerlein (DE), Dax Weigand (WR), Konnor Whitesell (DL/OL) and running back Gus Wilson.

The rising sophomore (2027) class also figures to add depth to this team – with Luke Battle (OL), C.J. Benson (OL), Connail Jackson (RB), and receiver Caleb Moreland.

The Cougars also figure to have some new faces for 2024 as well.
