With each section receiving a 1st Team All WNY and a 2nd Team All WNY. Today, I am going to discuss the underclassmen who made 2nd Team All WNY (Large Schools) on the Defensive side of the ball. This is a great group of football players that I think will make an impact in 2024 and reach their potential of making 1st Team.
Andrew Moberg
Andrew Moberg
In his first season on Varsity, DE Andrew Moberg made his presence felt with 73 tackles and a team leading 7 sacks. Moberg helped lead the Legends to the Class AA finals before falling to the reigning State Champion, Bennett Tigers. Andrew is quick of the ball with great hand placement. The better the competition, the better he plays. Moberg displays amazing speed, as shown in a Week 5 game at Bennett, when Connolly Cup winner, Ja’Meer Thomas Ja’Meer Thomas 5’10” | 170 lbs | WR Bennett | 2024 State NY took a carry 61 yards and he would have scored if not for Andrew’s determination. Moberg chased Thomas down preventing a touchdown. Andrew Moberg, in just one season, has shown he can play at a high level. If this continues, there is no reason he doesn’t end up on All Western New York’s 1st Team as a Senior.
Tommy Pratton
Tommy Pratton
The Jamestown Red Raiders’ defense was full of tackling machines and Tommy Pratton was one of those guys, tallying 105 tackles (which is coming from a Defensive Tackle). That was just second on the team but his 31 tackles for loss and 8 QB sacks were 1st. He also added 3 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Pratton is blessed with an insane combination of speed, quickness, power and strength. He also has that determination to never give up on a play that, us as coaches, look for. Tommy Pratton, playing for a powerhouse Class A team like Jamestown, will be a player to look out for in 2024. He should make 1st Team All WNY as a Senior.
Cole Bloomquist
Cole Bloomquist
Now, on to the other tackling machine in Jamestown, Cole Bloomquist. Cole not only led the Red Raiders in tackles but he was 2nd in Section VI with 138. 17 of those tackles went for a loss and he added 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 pass breakups. In addition, he showed his endurance by working as a part time Running Back, rushing 58 times for 274 yds and 2 touchdowns. Bloomquist has superb quickness and is always in attack mode. With his senior year coming up in 2024, Bloomquist will look for another 100 tackles and get recognized as a 1st Team All Western New York Linebacker.
Ciano is the epitome of a ballhawk, leading the Quakers and having the 2nd most interceptions in Section VI with 7. Jack was also an offensive weapon in 2023, leading Orchard Park in receiving with 35 receptions for 554 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jack Ciano Jack Ciano 6’1″ | 170 lbs | ATH Orchard Park | 2025 NY is an excellent cover man with fluid hips and an uncanny ability to track the ball down in the air. That, coupled with his ability play Wide Receiver at a high level will make Ciano a highly scouted player in 2024.
