With these players in particular, defenses had trouble regardless of who they lined up against them. It would be a mistake for defenses to try to have one on one coverage with any of these deep threats. Here are five of the most prolific receivers from the 2023 season.
A player I have covered extensively, Cam Miller is one of the best, if not the best, wide receiver coming out of New Jersey in 2025. The Winslow wideout was unstoppable all season long, as he put up some of the best stats in the state. One of the faster receivers you will find, Cam’s quick feet allows him to dart on by the competition or trip up the defender as runs a double move. Catching 15 touchdowns this fall and racking up 1334 yards, Cam had one of the most prolific junior seasons and is sure to stun defenders next year as well.
Arguably the most underrated receiver in the state, Zach Garmont Zach Garmont 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR Verona | 2024 NJ displayed pure athleticism for Verona. Bringing in 7 touchdowns and 1327 yards to go with it, Zach’s dangerous acceleration consistently caught defenders off guard. If defensive back’s feet stopped moving for a moment, they were in trouble because Zach would be running on by. A receiver with great hand-eye coordination as well, Zach could lay out for the ball or put his body in tough positions and still come down with it. With unreal body awareness, Zach is a true D1 talent.
Another player I’ve praised in the past, Joel Cordoba Joel Cordoba 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB Plainfield | 2025 State NJ was one of Plainfield’s biggest playmakers on the season. While he was a dangerous threat in the receiving game, he made just as big of an impact on the defensive side of the ball as well as he picked the ball off 5 times and returned it for a touchdown on three of them. As a receiver, Joel played explosively throughout 2023. With a quick first step off of the line Joel used his speed to leave defenders behind. Racking up 1204 yards and 9 touchdowns, Joel is ready to make just as big of an impact at the next level, but lucky for us, he has one more year to prove his worth.
Benny Liles Benny Liles 6’0″ | 160 lbs | WR Kingsway | 2024 NJ was an absolute mismatch for all defensive backfields this season. Catching for 1078 yards and 15 touchdowns, the Kingsway receiver used his quick feet to tie up defender’s legs and create the separation he needed to make it an easy throw for his QB. An elusive receiver, Benny was extremely impressive once the ball was in his hands. He has a powerful lower body that allows him to move laterally with speed and finesse.
Jarelle Taylor
Jarelle Taylor
Jarelle Taylor found the endzone 16 times in 2023 and caught for 812 yards. The Willingboro wideout is another quick hipped receiver that can get the defender running the wrong direction extremely easily. Jarrelle is talented in his catching abilities. While he can come down with the contested pass with ease, he also has the ability to reel the ball in when it’s away from the body. A player that can cut through defenders with precision, Jarrelle is always a threat when the ball is in his hands.
