The Comets managed to find the end zone just before halftime for the battle’s only points for more than 46 minutes until the Cubs managed to strike back late and force overtime.
But a pair of big special plays, including sophomore kicker Tyler Milioto Tyler Milioto K St. Charles Catholic | 2026 State LA ‘s walk-off field goal, helped punctuate the night for St. Charles, 10-7, and send the title defense back to the Caesars Superdome.
Granville Anderson II Granville Anderson II 5'10" | 180 lbs | ATH University Lab | 2024 State LA — 5-10, 180 WR/K/P — University Lab (2024)
The Cubs’ lone touchdown came on a clutch, leaping catch in tight coverage as junior quarterback Emile Picarella Emile Picarella 6'2" | 215 lbs | QB University Lab | 2025 State LA hit Anderson on a slant into the end zone, then added the extra point to help provide all seven of U-High’s points. Anderson had other catches during the contest, although the teams’ defenses largely ruled the day, and also boomed some big punts to help with field position in the low-scoring.
Brayden Bertucci Brayden Bertucci 5'10" | 165 lbs | P St. Charles Catholic | 2024 LA — 5-10, 165 DB/P — St. Charles Catholic (2024)
Special teams were huge for the Comets well before the game-winning field goal. The senior’s ability to drop multiple punts down near the goal line was a major factor in the field-position battle throughout the low-scoring slugfest.
Kyle Cannon Kyle Cannon 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB St. Charles Catholic | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 220 LB — St. Charles Catholic (2024)
More headlines this past week centered on University Lab’s junior star Keylan Moses Keylan Moses 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH University Lab | 2025 State LA announcing his college commitment to LSU, but St. Charles Catholic’s own standout linebacker also shared his decision to keep his talents in-state at Southeastern Louisiana. And both players lived up to high expectations flying around the box and being involved in seemingly every play for stops at and behind the line.
Laramie Guidry Laramie Guidry 6'6" | 230 lbs | DL University Lab | 2024 State LA — 6-6, 230 DL — University Lab (2024)
The big Central Arkansas commit had another nice game on defense helped set the edge and keeping St. Charles inside for himself and teammates such as Keylan Moses Keylan Moses 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH University Lab | 2025 State LA , Lamar Brown Lamar Brown 6'4" | 260 lbs | OL University Lab | 2026 State LA and company to make big plays. But Guidry’s biggest highlight came on special teams with his rush off the edge to block a fourth-quarter field goal attempt, keep the Cubs’ comeback hopes alive and set the stage for the game-tying drive by Picarella, Anderson and company.
Reshawn Hilare — 6-0, 185 DB — St. Charles Catholic (2025)
The Comets’ made life difficult for the U-High offense, particularly with a stingy secondary managing to largely contain the Cubs’ often explosive passing game, and Hilaire also made multiple plays in the box, highlighted by his quick pounce on a fumble near the goal line that extinguished the best scoring opportunity U-High had the vast majority of the night.
Tyler Milioto Tyler Milioto K St. Charles Catholic | 2026 State LA — K — St. Charles Catholic (2026)
The sophomore shook of a blocked field goal in the fourth quarter, stayed calm and focused while both teams called timeouts prior to his next opportunity in overtime and smoothly booted the game-winner through the uprights to send his team to a fifth straight state championship.
Keylan Moses Keylan Moses 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH University Lab | 2025 State LA — 6-3, 215 LB/ATH — University Lab (2025)
As mentioned above with Cannon, the newly LSU-committed Moses was a seemingly nonstop playmaker for his Cubs’ defense, including multiple emphatic stops behind the line early, late and everywhere in between. Moses also stepped up in running back and wildcat roles to provide his team’s offense with a change of pace in the backfield and physical conversions on short-yardage plays.
Riley Small Riley Small 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB University Lab | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 200 RB — University Lab (2024)
The most consistent offense of the night — certainly for the Cubs, if not arguably for either team — came on the powerful legs of the senior running back who tallied up north of 160 yards, including his role as a continued focal point late on the team’s game-tying drive.
Brady St. Pierre — 6-0, 175 QB — St. Charles Catholic (2024)
As mentioned repeatedly, the matchup was a semifinal slugfest, but the senior quarterback, following the big shoes of predecessor Ayden Authement, helped lead the offense to make just enough plays to move some chains, put together a touchdown drive and ultimately scrap out on top when the dust settled. Pierre made plays with his arm, legs and even one as a receiver on a little misdirection throwback play.
Jeramiah Wills Jeramiah Wills 5'11" | 165 lbs | RB St. Charles Catholic | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 165 RB — St. Charles Catholic (2024)
The senior was the steadiest presence in the Comets’ rushing attack going along with St. Pierre and the big-play pop of sophomore Skyler Edwards, who took off on a long field-flipping dash out of the shadow of one end zone to set up a 9-yard touchdown run by Wills to the other just a couple plays later.
