<p>High school football playoffs are underway in West Texas. Dozens of First Round (Bi-District) games were played in the region last Thursday and Friday as teams battled to advance as far as they can through the Region I brackets, and hopefully reach AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX for the state championship game in their respective classifications (or wherever the state title game is being played). Second Round (Area) games will be played this weekend with most games scheduled for Friday night.</p>

Davila, a Purdue commit, completed 17-of-23 passes for 176 yards and 3 TD while Johnson carried 12 times for 162 yards as the Rebels enjoyed the fruits of a balanced offensive attack. Frenship had 3 wide receivers with 100+ yards, including FBS prospect <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1420687' first='Leyton' last='Stone']</strong>, who had 12 receptions for 227 yards and 4 TD. Eastwood QB <strong>Evan Minjarez</strong> had a great day himself with 271 passing yards and 297 rushing yards. But the Eastwood defense simply couldn't stop Frenship's high-powered offense. Eastwood led, 26-21, after the first quarter but allowed 66 points over the final three quarters. . .Midland won its first playoff game since 2016 as the Bulldogs built an early 14-0 lead by converting a fumble recovery and interception into touchdowns in the first quarter and held off El Paso Americas at Astound Broadband Stadium. <strong>Tim Babino</strong> fueled Midland's run-dominated attack with 76 yards on 18 carries as leading rusher <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1421038' first='Elijah' last='McCoy']</strong> sat out the first half with an injury sustained last week against Odessa Permian. </p>

Tascosa won its sixth straight bi-district playoff game. . .Abilene scored on a 47-yard TD run on its first offensive snap and didn't let up in a lopsided victory over El Paso Hanks. The Abilene defense forced four turnovers in the first half. Hanks QB <strong>Marcus Porras</strong> threw for 208 yards and 2 TD for the Knights. . .Lubbock-Cooper won its seventh game in the last eight as they blew past EP Parkland. The Pirates face unbeaten Aledo (11-0) Friday in the Area Round. . .Amarillo made the long trip to El Paso and crushed Bel Air by one of the largest lopsided margins in school history. RB <strong>Pius Vokes</strong> carried the load on the ground for the Sandies by rushing for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. QB <strong>Will Flaming</strong> completed 14-of-22 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. </p>

<p><strong>Recap</strong>: Riverside was one of the few El Paso schools to emerge unscathed from the first round as they ran the ball 49 times for 280 yards in the win over Big Spring. <strong>Noah Ramirez</strong> led the way with 155 yards on a workhorse 32 carries. . .Amarillo Randall built a 34-0 halftime lead over Burkburnett and cruised to the win as the Raiders rushed for 331 yards and averaged 9.5 yards per carry. <strong>Dylan Ray </strong>led the Raiders with 147 yards and 3 touchdowns on 11 carries while <strong>Tryston Sanchez</strong> had 136 yards and 3 TD on 11 carries. . .Canyon rushed for 474 yards on a staggering 63 carries as they beat Wichita Falls. <strong>Ryan Rivera</strong> led the way with 165 yards rushing on 16 carries while <strong>Christian McGuire</strong> had 155 yards on 22 carries. . .Lubbock Estacado rushed for 326 yards on 29 carries as the Matadors literally ran past El Paso Bowie. Estacado averaged over 11 yards per attempt. Estacado faces Canyon Friday night at West Texas A&M's stadium. </p>
