Each one of those three teams has a tough opponent for regional games scheduled to be played on November 3.
Here is a look at the three games involving 9-0 teams and a prospect to watch from each game.
Holcomb (7-2) @ Cheney (9-0) – This is an interesting game in the regional round. Cheney is undefeated and ended Andale’s long winning streak. Holcomb is a school that always seems to have tough athletes who are not afraid to hit people. The winner of this game will face the winner of Hesston (5-4) at Clay Center (8-1).
Keegan Johnson, QB, 5’8”, 180, Holcomb, ‘25
Johnson is the junior signal caller for Holcomb. He has thrown for 1,159 yards in nine games. He has an impressive 67 percent completion percentage and has also thrown for 15 touchdowns. The Longhorn quarterback also has decent wheels rushing for 201 yards and three touchdowns.
Santa Fe Trail (7-2) at Hayden (9-0) – Hayden is one of three undefeated teams still left in the Class 3A field. The Wildcats will hope to get some home-cooking in a regional game against a well-coached Charger squad. The winner of this game in the sectional round will face the winner of the Parsons (8-1) and Prairie View (5-40 game.
Chayse Jeanneret, LB, 5’10”, 170, Santa Fe Trail, ‘24
Jeanneret is a linebacker who never met a ball carrier he did not want to tackle. He is second on the Chargers’ defense in total tackles. He has made 95 tackles in nine games. He can shake blockers and has solid tackling technique.
Holton (5-4) @ Wellsville (9-0) – Wellsville is a salty club, that should win this game. Yet, I have learned over the years that Holton is one of the best coached teams in Kansas and you can’t sleep on the Wildcats. This will be a big test for the high-scoring Eagles. The winner of this regional game will face the winner between Burlington (6-3) and Frontenac (8-1).
Carter Wilmarth Carter Wilmarth 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Wellsville | 2025 State KS , DE’LB, 6’1”, 215, Wellsville, ‘25
The Eagles are known for the explosive offense with a big-time quarterback prospect, but the defensive side of the ball is very tough in its own right. Wilmarth leads Wellsville in total tackles with 81, nine of which, have resulted in a loss of yardage. He also has collected three sacks, one quarterback hurry, and one fumble recovery.
