Continue ReadingDivision 2 will be the night cap, and man this one has Prime Time hype behind it. De La Salle and Muskegon are both returning to Ford Field after they were just here a year ago. Last season, De La Salle beat a solid Forest Hills Central team in the Division 2 title game by a gap of 52-13. Muskegon made a run last season until running into buzzsaw Detroit King in the Division 3 state championship game. These squads met earlier in the season with De La Salle taking the win 40-28. Both of these teams are extremely athletic and have championship pedigree. This is another game I could see having a lot of points scored once again, as they both boast explosive offenses.
De La Salle is looking for their 3rd straight title. Sante Gasperoni Sante Gasperoni 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB De La Salle | 2025 State MI is filling some big shoes, but has been extremely solid all year long. He takes care of the ball, puts it on target and has the poise to be really confident in everything he does. Defense will be an extremely important piece, especially stopping that downhill rushing attack Muskegon uses. Guys like Sam Wakula will be extremely important in stuffing the run and ensuring they don’t give up the big play. DLS is a prospect machine and I expect there will be a good number of standouts from this squad after Saturday night.
Muskegon is an exciting team that runs an interesting offensive scheme that gets their best athletes the ball and gets them space. QB M’Khi Guy is a hard runner and scary athlete who can get to the second level and absolutely blow by the secondary. He could really be the X- Factor, behind their star studded offensive line. Other solid players to watch will be Destin Piggee Destin Piggee 5'6" | 160 lbs | ATH Muskegon | 2024 State MI and Darekeo Speech Darekeo Speech 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Muskegon | 2025 State MI who are really interesting prospects in their own right. This Muskegon team is playing their best football at the right time, and I would not be shocked if they leave Detroit as the D2 state champions.
All 3 phases of this game will have college talent in this game. This one should have an awesome atmosphere, and is going to be a great showcase for some unbelievable talent for both squads. If you’re going to catch 1 game on Saturday, I think this is a can’t miss show!
