Southern Durham vs. Eastern Alamance – Defensive Standouts

I was on the sidelines for the State First Round Playoffs game. Southern Durham took control of the game early in the first quarter and closed out the game with a 36-7 win. The listed players performances caught my attention throughout the game.   Eastern Alamance HS   Javontae Poteat - DL, 6'0" 240 (No. 31 DL, No. 214 Overall). Javontae displayed good technique and good use of hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Ziere Ray - DL, 6'1" 205 (No. 68 DL, Watchlist). Ziere displayed good technique and use of hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Davian Wilson - DL, 5'10" 250. Davian displayed good technique and use of hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Payton Wright - LB, 6'0" 200 (No. 29 LB, No. 216 Overall). Payton displayed good lateral movement and speed to cover ground quickly while closing in on the ball carrier for stops. He displayed patience to let the play develop before reacting quickly to make stops.   Tajon Roberson - DB, 6'0" 170 (No. 56 DB, No. 343 Overall). Tajon displayed the ability to change directions quickly and speed to cover receivers. He displayed good technique and use of arms while defending the pass to receivers.   Southern Durham HS   Tyler Richmond - DL, 6'3" 240 (No. 5 DL, No. 28 Overall). Tyler displayed good technique and good use of hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Isaiah Campbell - DL, 6'5" 265 (No. 2 DL, No. 4 Overall). Isaiah displayed good technique and violent hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He displayed quickness out of his stance and upper body strength to manhandle blockers and disrupt the offense. Isaiah was a dominant force on the defensive line and was difficult to contain throughout the game.   Kamereh Singleton Brown - DL, 6'3" 290. Kamereh displayed good technique and good use of hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He moved well in tight spaces to stop inside running plays. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   KJ Liles - DL, 6'4" 290 (No. 8 DL, No. 81 Overall). KJ displayed good technique and violent hands to control blockers while moving past them for stops. He moved well in tight spaces to shut down inside running plays. He displayed quickness and upper body strength to overpower blockers. KJ displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Kristopher Watson - LB, 6'1" 220 (No. 11 LB, No. 145 Overall). Kristopher displayed good lateral movement and speed to cover a lot of ground quickly while closing in on the ball carrier for stops. He displayed the patience to let the play develop before reacting quickly to make stops. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Tre Mittman - DB, 6'0" 190 (No. 18 DB, No. 133 Overall). Tre displayed good speed and played with his head on a swivel while defending receivers against the pass. He displayed good technique and use of arms, making it difficult to complete a pass against him. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.   Amari Green - DB, 6'1" 195. Amari displayed good speed and the ability to change directions quickly while covering receivers. He displayed good technique on tackles made in the open field.
