Cleveland and La Cueva both won their respective semifinal matchups Friday night in the Albuquerque Metro region. The Storm dominated rival Rio Rancho for the second time in three weeks, 38-7, to advance to its fifth straight appearance in the Class 6A state championship game. At Wilson Stadium, La Cueva built an early lead over Las Cruces, kept scoring and eventually punched their ticket to the 6A title game with a 63-33 victory over the Bulldawgs. The Bears scored on their first five possessions to take a 35-20 halftime lead. But Las Cruces hung around and a key moment came midway through the third quarter when the Bulldawgs drove inside the red zone but fumbled the ball away. La Cueva drove down the field quickly and scored a TD in just 4 plays with QB [player_tooltip player_id='611098' first='Cameron' last='Dyer'] tossing a scoring pass to [player_tooltip player_id='274718' first='Cruz' last='Markham']. So, instead of the score being 35-27, La Cueva led, 42-20, and the Bulldawgs never seriously threatened thereafter. La Cueva amassed 681 total offensive yards. Dyer rushed 17 times for 200 yards and scored three touchdowns, including an 86-yard run late in the third quarter. Dyer also threw for 334 yards.
