We are back with another edition of the “Under The Radar” series where we are highlighting players from across the state and from each class that I believe are flying under the radar. For this second part, I am looking at running backs. Below I picked out four fearsome backs from each grade that I think you need to add to your radars ASAP!!
Despite all the changes that the Dragons underwent last offseason, senior RB Isaiah Weber Isaiah Weber 5’7″ | 170 lbs | RB Gretna | 2024 State NE remained unfazed and took on a heavier load in 2023. Isaiah ended his senior season with 1,210 yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, a team-high 76 tackles, 11 TFLs, and 2 sacks. Isaiah is a real rough-and-tumble back who can pick up the tough yards between the tackles but is also shifty enough to make defenders miss and bounce runs to the outside. One thing that sticks out about Isaiah is his strength. He’s a very strong runner with a powerful lower base that he keeps pumping through contact. Great vision! With Isaiah’s proven production on both sides of the ball, it is very surprising that he is still without offers. A guy that can improve your roster— don’t sleep!
Highlights
Lincoln North Star emerged as one of the surprise breakout teams and found themselves back in the playoffs. One big reason for this success was the emergence of workhorse RB, Jordan Anderson Jordan Anderson 6’0″ | 170 lbs | RB Lincoln North Star | 2025 State NE . Jordan was among the biggest junior risers this season after ramping up his production from 181 rushing yards and a touchdown as a sophomore to 809 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. The first thing that you notice when watching Jordan’s tape is his top-tier speed showing that he can break away from defenses when he hits his next gear. He displays nice patience in the backfield before exploding through his hole. Jordan is super twitchy in the open field and can make multiple defenders miss. Very quick feet, great vision, and tough— overall a solid prospect who is only going to keep getting better.
Although the Pioneer’s season didn’t end as expected, they can definitely say they have a lot to look forward to with budding star Markus Nelson Markus Nelson 5’9″ | 190 lbs | RB Nebraska City | 2026 State NE in the backfield. Sophomore Markus Nelson Markus Nelson 5’9″ | 190 lbs | RB Nebraska City | 2026 State NE experienced a nice breakout season with a school record-setting 1,475 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground while averaging 8.8 yards a carry. Nelson ended the season on a very hot streak going for over 250 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in each of his last three games. What I like about Markus’ running style is that it’s very straight to business. He’s more of a north-and-south runner who doesn’t do much dancing around but can still make defenders miss and can be a threat when he plants his foot and cuts back across the field. He is constantly fighting for extra yardage after contact, using great balance and lower body strength to stay upright through tackle attempts. Watch out for Markus on the defensive side of the ball as well. Nelson was a crucial enforcer on that Pioneer defense, racking up 50 tackles, 6 TFLs, an interception, and a forced fumble. Check this guy out ASAP!
People who knew about Lincoln Southeast’s Kadin Logan Kadin Logan 5’7″ | 170 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2027 NE going into the season probably weren’t shocked to see him put up the numbers that he did. Kadin wasted no time leaving his mark, ending the season as the rushing yards leader among freshmen (11-man) with 615 yards and 3 touchdowns. Logan’s big coming-out party arrived in week 7 when he rushed for 237 yards and a touchdown en route to an upset of #3 Millard West. Kadin’s tape was very exciting to watch as he is such an electric runner, possessing legit track speed (11.01 100m – 8th grade) and ankle-snatching shiftiness. Only a freshman, Kadin plays like someone with more experience than his age, running with elite vision and patience. He has great anticipation for opening lanes and can explode through those gaps once he sees a crease. Kadin can do it all as a back, showing that he can wear away at defenses when running between the tackles and outrace defenders when he runs to the outside. Very tough runner— if you’re going to bring Kadin down, he’s going to make you earn it. It’s scary to think what Kadin will look like by his senior year.
