Playoff Week 1
This fast-moving season now into the state playoffs.
The Race For Tallahassee is indeed taking shape – and in the next two weeks – things will become clearer as district and regional titles will take shape.
Each week during the season, we have brought you some of the top teams along with others who are trying to extend their season.
As we head toward the first week of the state playoffs, here is a look at the way the Top 25 plus stack up:
1 Bradenton IMG Academy (Independent, 9-0). LAST WEEK: The Ascenders rolled to a 47-0 win over St. Thomas More of Connecticut. THIS WEEK: Bye. NEXT WEEK: A home game against national power Baltimore St. Frances Academy.
2. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1M, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Lions finished off the regular season unbeaten with a 57-0 win at St. Petersburg Lakewood. THIS WEEK: Home game against Hollywood Avant Garde (5-5) NEXT WEEK: Winner of the North Palm Beach Benjamin (8-2) at No. 2 West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (8-1) contest.
3. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (3M, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Raiders were off. THIS WEEK: Plantation (6-4). NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 5 Fort Lauderdale Dilliard (5-5) at No. 4 Pompano Beach Blanche Ely (8-2).
4. Miami Norland (2M, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Vikings ended the regular season unbeaten with a 54-0 win against Miami Killian. THIS WEEK: A first round state playoff game against No. 8 seed Miami St. Brendan on Thursday. NEXT WEEK: The winner ofNo. 5 Pinecrest Gulliver Prep (7-3) at No. 4 Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace (6-4).
5. Cocoa (2S, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Tigers continued to roll along with a Barbecue Bowl win against Rockledge, 26-0. THIS WEEK: No. 8 seed Eustis (7-3) in the first game of the state playoffs. NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 5 Dunnellon (7-3) at No. 4 Hudson (9-1).
6. Orlando Edgewater (3M, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Eagles had no problem with rival Orlando Boone, 42-14. THIS WEEK: A first round state playoff matchup againstNo. 8 Jacksonville First Coast (6-4). NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 5 Oviedo (8-2) at No. 4 Orlando Jones (7-3) in the second round of the state playoffs.
7. Miami Central (2M, 6-3). LAST WEEK: The Rockets spent the final week off. THIS WEEK: A first round state playoff contest against No. 7 Miami Edison (6-4). NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 6 North Miami Beach (4-6) at No. 3 Miami Booker T. Washington (8-2).
8. Homestead (3M, 8-1). LAST WEEK: The Broncos had the final week of the season off. THIS WEEK: Will play host to No. 8 Hollywood McArthur (5-4) in the opening round of the state playoffs. NEXT GAME: The winner ofNo. 5 Hialeah (9-1) at No. 4 Miami Southridge (6-4).
9. Plantation American Heritage (2M, 7-1). LAST WEEK: The Patriots were off. THIS WEEK: No. 8 Coconut Creek North Broward Prep (5-5) in the opening round of the state playoffs. NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 5 Boynton Beach Somerset Canyons (7-3) at No. 4 West Palm Beach The King's Academy (8-2).
10. Miami Palmetto (4M, 8-1). LAST WEEK: Panthers ended the regular season with a 47-on win against Miami Beach. THIS WEEK: No. 7 Doral Academy (5-4) in the opening round of the state playoffs. NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 6 Weston Cypress Bay (8-2) at No. 3 Davie Western (7-3)
11. Gainesville Buchholz (4S, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Bobcats finished up the regular season unbeaten with a 42-20 win against Ocala Trinity Catholic. THIS WEEK: No. 8 Lynn Haven Mosley (6-4) in the opening round of the state playoffs. NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 5 St. John Creekside (6-4) at No. 4 Ponte Vedra (7-3).
12. Miami Christopher Columbus (4M, 8-2). LAST WEEK: The Explorers were off for the final week of the season. THIS WEEK: No. 8 Miami Lakes Barbara Goleman (5-4) to open the post season. NEXT GAME: The winner of No. 5 Pembroke Pines West Broward (7-3) at No. 4 Homestead South Dade (7-3)
13. Lake Mary (4M, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Rams showed what they are all about, beating previously unbeaten Daytona Beach Mainland, 33-0. THIS WEEK: Opens the state playoffs with a road game at No. 8 Orlando Boone (5-5). NEXT WEEK: Plays the winner of No. 5 Jacksonville Mandarin (7-3) at No. 4 Winter Park (9-0).
14. Daytona Beach Mainland (3S, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Buccaneers tasted defeat for the first time this season at home, 33-0 to Lake Mary. THIS WEEK: A first round state playoff game at home against No. 8 Satellite (5-5). NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 5 Rockledge (5-5) at No. 4 Jensen Beach (9-1).
15. Clearwater Central Catholic (1M, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Marauders finished the regular season unbeaten with a 34-14 road win at Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons. THIS WEEK: No. 4 Largo Indian Rocks Christian (6-4) in the first round of the state playoffs. NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 2 Tampa Carrollwood Day (7-1) at No. 3 St. Petersburg Northside Christian (6-4)
16. Seffner Armwood (3M, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Hawks finished the regular season out with a 49-14 win against Ruskin Lennard. THIS WEEK: No. 7 Tampa Wharton (6-4) to open the 2023 state playoffs. NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 6 Neptune Beach Fletcher (7-3) at No. 3 Tampa Bay Tech (8-2).
17. Sanford Seminole (4M, 8-2). LAST WEEK: The Seminoles were off for the final week of the season. THIS WEEK: No. 7 Oviedo Hagerty (6-4) in the first round of the state playoffs. NEXT GAME: Either No. 6 Orlando Evans (5-5) or No. 3 Apopka (7-3).
18. Lake Wales (3S, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Highlanders won for the 24th straight time and heads to the state playoffs after a 28-3 win against Bartow. THIS WEEK: The playoffs begin with a home contest against No. 7 New Port Richey Gulf (5-5). NEXT WEEK: The winner of No. 6 Auburndale (7-3) at No. 3 Leesburg (9-1).
19. Fort Myers Bishop Verot (2S, 9-1). LAST WEEK: The Vikings enjoyed the final week of the regular season off. THIS WEEK: No. 8 Mulberry (7-3) to start the state playoffs off at home. NEXT GAME: No. 4 Estero (8-2) at No. 5 Wauchula Hardee County (8-2) in the second round.
20. West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (1M, 8-1). LAST WEEK: The Crusaders came up with a huge season-ending 28-7 win against Palm Beach Central. THIS WEEK: A home game against rival No. 3 North Palm Beach Benjamin (8-2). NEXT GAME: Either No. 4 Hollywood Avant Garde (5-5) at No. 1 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (10-0).
21. Venice (4S, 8-2). LAST WEEK: The Indians came away with a 53-42 win against Clearwater Academy International to close out the regular season. THIS WEEK: A home game against No. 8 Bradenton Lakewood Ranch (4-6). NEXT WEEK: No. 4 Naples Gulf Coast (5-4) at No. 5 Immokalee (5-5) in Round 2.
22. Lakeland (4S, 7-3). LAST WEEK: The Dreadnaughts had the final week of the 2023 regular season off. THIS WEEK: They open the state playoffs at home against No. 8 New Port Richey Mitchell (6-4). NEXT GAME: No. 5 Bartow (6-4) at No. 4 Winter Haven (7-3).
23. Miami Booker T. Washington (2M, 7-2). LAST WEEK: The Tornadoes had the final week off. THIS WEEK: No. 6 North Miami Beach (4-6) in the first round of the state playoffs. NEXT GAME: No. 7 Miami Edison (6-4) at No. 2 Miami Central (6-3).
24. Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (4S, 7-2). LAST WEEK: The Titans had the final week of the regular season off. THIS WEEK: A first round of the state playoffs against No. 8 Kissimmee Osceola (4-6). NEXT WEEK: No. 4 Vero Beach (8-2) at No. 5 Palm Bay Heritage (9-1)
