Into the 3rd round we go in 4A and while we know that Region 3 was stout, I'm not sure we know they would be this dominant. Louisville came into the playoffs ranked as the number 1 team in our playoff rankings and have proceeded to only give up 7 points thru 2 rounds, further justifying their ranking. The surprise up to this point in 4A-North has been Caledonia, who as the 4 seed from the region has won one score games on the road at Ripley and, last week, at Newton County. Game of last week was the one score battle that came down to the wire with Houston and Senatobia. Can Houston knock off Region 4, 1 seed, West Lauderdale this week and make next week's north half state championship a Region 3 battle all over again?

South Half

Region 8-2 Pass Christian 27 Region 5-1 Quitman 7

Region 7-1 Columbia 49 Region 8-3 Greene County 20

Region 8-1 Poplarville 45 Region 7-3 Forrest County 15

Regions 7 and 8 are the only two left standing in 5A-South after Round 2 featured mostly non-competitive games, with the exception of Lawrence County and McComb. Columbia and Poplarville have been the most complete two teams in the south part of the classification from the beginning and look to be on a collision course for the South State Championship - interestinlgy enough, though, they both play on the road this week.
