Two way lineman that is a force on both sides of the ball. At 6’5” 260 lbs. he checks a lot of boxes as high level D1 line prospect. Has the ability to overpower opponents with size along but as a state qualifier in wrestling he understands leverage and has the strength at the POA to dominate the LOS. He’s got good feet and lateral mobility to redirect and chase in the short area. Does a good job using his strength and hands to get separation and keep blockers away from his body so he can shed and pursue. He’s quick to locate the ball carrier and is an aggressive tackler exploding through contact. Collected an offer from Nevada over the summer but with his skillset, size, and positional versatility expect many more D1 programs to take notice as the recruiting cycle progresses.
Johnson is a developing outside LB with good length, speed, and growth potential at 6’2” 210 lbs. Running an 11.25 100m he’s got good straight line and closing speed to chase sideline to sideline. Shows he can process his reads quickly and react allowing him to fill gaps and make plays as they are developing at or behind the LOS. Love his ability to work laterally and make plays from the backside. Can use his speed to weave his way through traffic on his way to the ball carrier but can also be physical taking on blockers to shed. Strong open field tackler that is tough to break once he gets his hands latched on and does a good job wrapping up to the ground. Really good upside as he continues to add weight and develop over the next few years.
Highlights
Quality edge prospect with good size at 6’3” 225 lbs. and natural movement skills. Has the frame and growth potential to add weight to his frame without sacrificing his quick first step off the ball or his ability to redirect in pursuit. Shows he can beat blockers with good command of a variety of moves or with brute strength. He’s savvy with how he releases off blocks and flashes good hand placement/usage to disengage. Good contact balance and strength at the POA, he stays inside his framework and drives through contact. Like his ability to dissect plays as they are developing and how quickly he can recognize run/pass while locating the ball carrier. Shows some positional versatility while also playing OL throughout the year as a sophomore. One to watch going into his junior season.
