The game was moved to a Thursday to honor the men and women who have served our great country for Veteran’s Day. The defending State Runner up Warriors will head to the 2nd Round after winning 56-28.
The game was back and forth for the first 1.5 quarters with the score knotted at 14-14. Cherokee Co was able to captilize on their size advantage and wore the Wildcats down the rest of the game. Cherokee jumped out to a 42-14 near the end of the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter was a high scoring affair, with mostly reserves seeing action, with both teams scoring 14 in the final stanza.
Prospect Recap: Cherokee County
Jacob Cornejo- RB/LB-2024
He looks the part when steps off the bus . The 6’0 206 1st Team All State RB has broad shoulders and strong lower body, reminds you of an old school Dick Butkus type guy. He is big, strong, fast and physical. Has good balance that makes it hard to bring him down with initial contact. Keeps his legs moving to gain additional yards when he is wrapped up. Has the speed to take it to the house from anywhere on the field. A special player. Had 300 yards on 19 carries with 5 TDs with most of the work coming in the 1st half where he had 11 carries for 224 yard and 3 TDs.
The 2022 All Classification RB had over 2600 yards rushing and 38 TDs last season and has followed that up nicely this year with over 1800 yards. His signature game was back in September when he became only the 3rd Alabama player in history to rush for over 400 yards in a single game when he ran for 420 yards against Oneonta. Has a offer from Birmingham Southern. Que of the tape, this guy is a football player.
Zack Gaylor-OL-2024
You don’t have a RB run for 4500 yards in 25 games without some big nasties up front, Gaylor fits that bill. The 6’2 270 Senior has a good body type and carries his weight well. Outstanding run blocker that finishes till the whistle. Strong physical guy that loves to mix it up. Recently selected to play in the Annual North-South Alabama All Star game in Mobile. All State Selection last season and ready to go in the classroom with a 3.4 GPA and 21 ACT. Has offers from Berry, Huntingdon, Wooster, Greensboro, and D2 Lane College and has interest from several FCS schools. Good player to evaluate if you are looking for a OL that fits into your run blocking scheme.
Jace Turner-ATH-2024
Baseball player that stays in shape playing football. Athletic kid that has a competitive streak and a nose for the football at the DB spot. Good in Zone coverage with the speed to break on the ball and has good tackling technique. Had a fumble recovery and an interception in Thursday nights game to go along with multiple tackles. Defiantly one to watch for the Warriors as they make a deep playoff run.
Prospect Recap: Central Florence Wildcats
Hunter Palmer-ATH-2025
The 5’9 175 ATH is a Swiss Army knife for the Wildcats. He had 27 touches, both rushing and receiving, for 214 yards with 3 TDs. Shifty runner that has quick feet and good change of direction. He has good hand out of the backfield with a high football IQ. Rarely leaves the field playing both ways for the Wildcats. 1st Team All Region as a Sophomore and was 9th on the State rushing list with 1800 yards to end the regular season. An interesting follow this Camp/Eval season.
Donevin Farris-RB-2025
The 5’8 206 RB is motor grader. Compact build with strong legs every time he touched the ball Thursday he was good for 4 yards just from keeping his legs moving. Ended the night with 69 yards on 14 carries, all positive gain plays. Good North South runner that doesn’t mind contact and impossible to tackle 1v1. Only a Junior and I see a lot of potential is this RB next season in 4A.
Jackson Brewer-QB-2025
Another Junior on the young Wildcats with good upside potential. The 6’2 160 is not called on a lot to pass in the Wildcats offensive scheme but when he does he can sling it. He threw a couple of on target passes in traffic Thursday night, in traffic. Has good legs and is a threat to turn it up field when he gets to the outside. High football IQ that is comfortable under center running an offense that instills a lot of misdirection. He passed for 745 yards and 8 TDs on the season with just 68 attempts. With added pounds this season in the weight room this Junior will be one to keep an eye on next season in 4A.
