WOODRUFF | Woodruff seemed determined to limit what Kaydon Crawford did in the Clinton passing game on Friday.

Crawford, who has had two monster weeks in a row and who set the Clinton record for receptions in a game recently was held to just one catch for seven yards.

There was just one problem. They forgot about Zay.

[player_tooltip player_id='771037' first='Zay' last='Johnson'] had three pivotal catches for 84 yards and a score, Crawford did his damage on the ground instead, and the Red Devils took a 36-20 win over the Wolverines to set up a likely showdown for the Region IV-3A title with Chester next week.

How effective was Johnson? Let's see. He took a short pass and turned it into a 37-yard touchdown with a couple of good moves around the right side on the Red Devils' first play from scrimmage. He caught a 46-yard strike to set up a score late in the second quarter to give Clinton breathing room that they'd never give up. He returned kicks, he played defense, and he very nearly blocked a field goal.

In short, Johnson did just about anything the Red Devils needed.

Crawford found a way to do some damage himself. With a steady rain beginning midway through the second quarter, Clinton was content to keep things mostly on the ground, throwing just eight passes on the night. Instead of his usual aerial production, Crawford was second on the team in rushing for Clinton, carrying 10 times for 59 yards and a pair of scores. The Red Devils had 281 total yards and scored four times on the ground, with Tray Cook and Javen Cook each adding a touchdown.

Reversal Of Fortune

Crawford's catch/run statistical flip-flop was mirrored on the other side of the field. Woodruff's [player_tooltip player_id='1036753' first='Aiden' last='Gibson'], who's been a monster in the running game for the Wolverines, managed just 25 yards on the ground. He had a huge night in the passing game, though, catching six balls for 164 yards and a touchdown. He was the top receiver for [player_tooltip player_id='1253917' first='TJ' last='Morris'], who threw for 270 yards and a pair of scores, including one to [player_tooltip player_id='1395078' first='Kam' last='Taylor'] to open the scoring for the Wolverines.

Solid Night

Joshua Ruiz had a great night kicking the ball for Woodruff. Ruiz made both extra points, and converted on field goals of 31 and 24 yards for the Wolverines.
