Here is a look at five athletes who posted solid tackle numbers on October 13.
Trevor Vasquez, LB, 6’0”, 172, Olathe North, ‘24
Vasquez helped lead the Eagles’ defense to a 14-point win over Mill Valley in week seven. The senior outside linebacker finished with 16 total tackles in the win. Two of those tackles were for a loss of yardage.
Hunter Houser, LB, 6’2”, 185, Eisenhower (Goddard), ‘24
Eisenhower is undefeated and its defense is a major reason why. One of those defenders, senior Houser, had seven total tackles in a win over Salina South. Of those seven tackles, five came behind the line of scrimmage for lost yardage.
Logan Holthaus Logan Holthaus 5'11" | 190 lbs | LB Blue Valley NW | 2024 State KS , OLB, 5’11”, 185, Blue Valley Northwest, ‘24
Holthaus is a physical and quick linebacker. He had 11 total tackles and seven solo tackles in a 28-7 win over rival Blue Valley North. Holthaus has 64 total tackles after seven games.
Garrett Pierce Garrett Pierce 5'9" | 175 lbs | LB Basehor-Linwood | 2025 State KS , LB, 5’9”, 175, Basehor-Linwood, ‘25
Pierce had 12 total tackles in a win over Seaman. He had three solo tackles and one sack in the Bobcats win over the Vikings. Pierce is a physical specimen and a very smart football player.
Austin Cornett Austin Cornett 5'11" | 195 lbs | LS Blue Valley | 2025 State KS , MLB, 5’10”, 190, Blue Valley, ‘25
Cornett might not carry a tennis racket like his namesake Jim Cornett, but he can bring the wood. Cornett had 18 total tackles in a three-point loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. One of those tackles was for a loss of yardage. Through seven games he has made 45 total tackles.
