We are taking a look at the top 5 undefeated teams in the state who may make their way to Memorial Stadium in late November. Each program has some familiar faces and new names who are leading the way.

DeMatha

The stags are rolling, they've scored 191 points and only let up 40 points through 5 games. In four of the five games opponents haven't scored more than 7 points. We have seen some guys have the start of a breakout season like [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] and young weapon [player_tooltip player_id='212349' first='Lavar' last='Keys']. Gardner has been showing improvement in play as a whole. He is very dangerous outside the pocket he makes nail biting plays while staying composed in the back field. His accuracy on the run is impressive, and he shows that he trusts his receivers by putting the ball in the air even when its tight one on one coverage. His ball placement and the athleticism of his receivers are a sight to see. Keys has emerged as an impact sophomore for the stags who can make catches through tight windows and turn on his breakaway speed to take it the distance.

Quince Orchard

The defending 4A champs are off to another really strong start, scoring 194 points while only giving up 22 points defensively. This defense was considered the best defense in the state last year and they are repeating as one of the best so far. Defense is made at the front end and QO has a few studs on the D-line in 4-star athlete [player_tooltip player_id='249389' first='Jaylen' last='Harvey'] and another D1 prospect in [player_tooltip player_id='1033473' first='Aiden' last='Burgess']. Burgess shows off his fast hands at D-Tackle, causing interceptions, TFL's, and being a wall against the short run. On the back end QO has playmakers [player_tooltip player_id='249961' first='Elisha' last='West'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1033475' first='Cristien' last='Sanchez']. Sanchez is a 6' foot 185-pound corner, who can cover the deep ball and flies downhill to make tackles in run support. Offensively [player_tooltip player_id='885247' first='Nino' last='Marzullo'] , [player_tooltip player_id='370994' first='Tavahri' last='Groves'] and [player_tooltip player_id='348555' first='Iverson' last='Howard'] are carrying the way. Groves is a major threat scoring from all over the field, receiving, rushing and special teams.

Flowers

Flowers is absolutely dominating their opponents this season, scoring 234 points and never scoring less than 40 points. Defensively the Jags only let up 7 points making them the toughest defense in the state thus far; by this point last season Flowers let up 20 points. Offensive standouts are [player_tooltip player_id='1033482' first='Joshua' last='Jefferson'], senior transfer from DeMatha and [player_tooltip player_id='1033500' first='Michael' last='Southerland'] who leads the way for Jefferson. Southerland creates holes in the line that 2 running backs could fit through. Defensively the Jags have top talent at every level. [player_tooltip player_id='371117' first='Obinna' last='Onwuka'] on the edge, [player_tooltip player_id='318357' first='Kendrick' last='Council'] at LB, and [player_tooltip player_id='249417' first='Braydon' last='Lee'] lurking the defensive back field, three D1 prospects causing havoc for opposing offenses. [player_tooltip player_id='263144' first='Nasir' last='Smith'], Senior transfer from Archbishop has had a great impact on the already dominant flowers defense. Smith is a physical enforcer for the Jags who brings the boom behind his hits.

Oakdale

The bears are ranked #1 in 3A, scoring 154 and letting up 100 points through 5 games. Oakdale made a statement early in the season with a tough win over Baltimore County power Milford Mill. The defense showed up this game with four total turnovers, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The bears have a big 3 in QB [player_tooltip player_id='788510' first='Evan' last='Austin'], Edge [player_tooltip player_id='263165' first='Dominic' last='Nichols'], and WR [player_tooltip player_id='553907' first='Hunter' last='Thompson'] who are all committed to D1 programs. Austin is top 10 in MPSSAA in passing yards and is electric when carrying the ball. Thompson is a QB's best friend using his ability to go up over smaller DB's and make impressive catches even some one handers for style points. Nichols is always a threat when on the field, he can shut down a side in the run game, and in loose ball situations opponents should hope he's not the player to recover the ball, he has great size with the athleticism of a receiving tight end. Another player raising some eyebrows for the bears is junior DB [player_tooltip player_id='506841' first='Brayden' last='Dewaal'], transfer from Boonsboro where he put up very respectable stats in 2022. Dewaals play style on this defense is a great fit, I really like the addition. So far Dewaal has 2 interceptions, 1 pick-6, a forced fumble and still flies around making tackles like he did at Boonsboro. The battle tested Bears are looking like they will be ready for the playoffs in November.

North Point

After winning the school's first state championship in school history the Eagles are off to an even stronger start than last season. By this time last year North Point wat 3-2, with 144 scored points and 51 points allowed. Currently the Eagles have scored 191 points and have only allowed 10 points, which all game from last week's game against Calvert. This makes the second strongest defense of the undefeated teams with only Flowers beating them out with 7 points allowed. Leaders on this powerful defense are junior [player_tooltip player_id='1033502' first='Kamari' last='Loving'], senior [player_tooltip player_id='1033503' first='Stephen' last='Neal'], and junior DB's [player_tooltip player_id='1033504' first='Seth' last='Gathers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1033512' first='Ethan' last='Washington']. Washington is a tall DB prospect at 6'2 who closes on the ball fast in underneath routes and can high point the ball using his height to his advantage guarding smaller receivers. I would keep an eye on the development of Washington, who plays alongside D1 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1033504' first='Seth' last='Gathers'], they both have a lot of football to play before 2025 signing day.
