Greene County Tigers
Down in Greensboro, the Tigers are rolling and off to a 7-0 start to the season. One of the better teams south of Athens, Greene County has shown the ability to win close, tight ballgames as well as blow teams out. In their seven wins this fall, four of them were won by 28 points or more. They’ve got some D1 talent on the roster and have used their talent well. They know how to score, putting up at least 30+ points in five of their seven games this season. They run the ball extremely well and have four different rushers over the 200-yard mark. Collectively, the Tigers are rushing for 235 yards per game along with 21 total rushing touchdowns. Defensively, they’ve only given up 14 or more points just once this season. They’re a true Middle Georgia team to keep an eye on this month and beyond.
Telfair County
Down in South Georgia is where you’ll find the undefeated and impressive Telfair County Trojans. A small-town Single-A team playing great football right now, the Trojans have big wins this year over Atkinson County, Miller County, Montgomery County, Bryan County, Hawkinsville, and Wilcox County. They fight and crawl every Friday night, and every night this season, they’ve come out on top. They have more talent than you’ll usually find in a small town like this one, and it’s showing up in the standings. They play tough, hard-nosed defense, giving up 15 points or less in every game so far. They know how to score as well, and they could run the table and win their final three games of the regular season if they continue to play the way they have so far this fall.
Trion Bulldogs
A northwest Georgia team who continues to impress, Trion is a program that loves to run the football, and they’re off to a big 2023 season so far with a 6-0 record. They’re been crushing teams on a weekly basis, winning by 28 or more points in four of their six games this season. They’ve only had one close ballgame and it was a 28-21 win over Dade County. They have blowout wins over Coosa, Gordon Central, and Gordon Lee. This is a team on a mission, and defensively, they’ve only given up 20 points or more in one game this year. One of the better teams in the area, look for the Bulldogs to make a possible deep playoff run later this season.
Stephens County Indians
A dominant program in North Georgia, the Indians have been steam-rolling everyone in their path so far in 2023. A well-coached and well-rounded team in all phases of the game, Stephens County knows how to win games with both their offense and defense. They’re off to an impressive 7-0 record with wins over Habersham Central, Rabun County, Flowery Branch, among others. They’ve scored at least 30 points in every game this season while scoring at least 50 points in two of their last three games. Defensively, they have allowed 7 points or less in five of their seven games. They are a big threat to go the distance in 3A this fall.
