10/27: McQuaid Jesuit vs. Rush-Henrietta
What a quick jump to the start of a playoff sectional game it was when McQuaid Jesuit took on Rush-Henrietta during their Friday afternoon game. For that quick jump, receiver Brenton Paladino Brenton Paladino 6'6" | 170 lbs | WR McQuaid | 2024 NY was able to return an electric punt return by dodging multiple Rush-Henrietta defenders in the process of his return for a TD. The best pass in the game for McQuaid’s quarterback Bryson Paladino was a 45-yard TD pass to hit Brenton Paladino Brenton Paladino 6'6" | 170 lbs | WR McQuaid | 2024 NY in stride on a quick go route where Brenton was able to gain inside leverage on the DB quickly. Bryson was able to place the football in the perfect spot for Brenton to make the catch and take off to then make the safety miss his tackle in the open field. It would not be a game recap for McQuaid without talking about RB Allen Nesmith who had a 48-yard rushing TD. On the rushing TD, Nesmith was able to accelerate quickly and had excellent ball carrier vision to find the open hole through the LOS to take off to out-run the entire Rush-Henrietta defense. A really dominate performance by this McQuaid team as they won 48 to 14 over Rush-Henrietta
10/27: Victor vs. Churchville-Chili
A really close game that was a very interesting watch between Victor High School and Churchville-Chili High School. It started off with Churchville-Chili getting off to a 7-0 lead, but DB Kevin Booth was able to come in clutch on a double reverse pass to make an interception for Victor to get back into it. Then #5, Adam Ruffalo Adam Ruffalo 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH Victor | 2024 State NY was able to score on a 19-yard bubble screen to tie the game for Victor. To take the lead in the game, RB Jameson Ricigliano was able to take a 22-yard inside hand off from the shotgun and made a few Churchville-Chili defenders miss walking into the end zone. When the game was all tied up 14-14 in the 4th quarter, Jacob Loughlin was able to find Adam Ruffalo Adam Ruffalo 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH Victor | 2024 State NY streaming across the field for a 23-yard TD to take the lead. Victor High School ended up taking the win over Churchville-Chili with a final score of 28 to 14. A close battle that was a lot of fun to watch where both teams have been great all year long!
10/27: Aquinas Institute vs. Pittsford Sutherland
It was quite the Friday night when Aquinas Institute took on Pittsford Sutherland for their sectional battle that was under the lights. Aquinas was able to walk away with the 24 to 10 win and made a lot of tough plays in the process. Pittsford was able to get on the board first, but Aquinas was able to match their score with a 16-yard TD pass from Trent Buttles Trent Buttles 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Aquinas Institute Of Rochester | 2027 NY to Alexis Rosado who ran a great go-route coming out of the slot. In the 3rd quarter, Aquinas found themselves trailing again but Buttles was able to step up into the pocket and deliver a 52-yard bomb to receiver Thomas Levans III. For the Aquinas offense, RB Derrion Battle Derrion Battle 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Aquinas | 2025 State NY was able to have a lot of big time runs to set up the offense in awesome field position to score. Battle was also able to score in the 4th quarter on a 20-yard burst through the C-gap of the offensive line. The offensive line for Aquinas did a great job pulling and creating the necessary space for Battle to work in the open field on the run. To end the game, who else but Derrion Battle Derrion Battle 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Aquinas | 2025 State NY secured the game sealing INT deep down the field.
10/27: Hilton vs. Fairport
The other big-time matchup that was such a thrill to watch was when Hilton took on Fairport under the lights at their home field. Hilton was able to defend their home turf with a 31 to 14 win over Fairport High School and did it in a physical way. That physical way that I am referencing is pounding the football on the ground game with their bruising RB John DiBattisto. In the game, DiBattisto was able to score on a 3-yard, a 16-yard, and then finally a downhill 68-yard TD dagger where he outran the entire Fairport defense. In the end, the Hilton offense produced 389 total yards with 293 of it coming from the rushing attack. Hilton’s offensive line did such a great job of dominating the line of scrimmage and winning at the point of attack to allow DiBattisto to use his physicality in the 2nd level of the defense.
