While some prospects receive significant recognition and attention from scouts and analysts, there are always a few players who deserve more recognition for their abilities. In this scouting report, we will highlight a few football prospects who have not received the attention they deserve but possess the talent to excel at the next level.
There were multiple times that Wood showed his ability to focus down the field when in tight coverage. Also, when he was in small windows, he was able to make big catches in traffic with defenders all around him. This is an important ability to have, as in college you rarely get wide open. He has the flexibility to change his body position on any given route, or when the pass was in the air. Wood is able to stay balanced in his movements. He is able to reset himself after the catch to make a play and gain some extra yardage.
Elisha Hayes
Elisha Hayes
Many people believe that a receiver should catch any ball that is thrown in their vicinity. That is not always the case because receivers aren’t perfect. However, Hayes’ hands are incredible. When watching his film, I kept realizing that his hands are both strong and soft. When making a catch, he does a good job of moving his hands to the ball to soften the catch. This is something college coaches love, because the ball will rarely bounce out of his hands.
Landon Keith
Landon Keith
Keith’s awareness is a big reason why he is a good corner. When watching film, I realized that Keith’s awareness in zone coverage is incredible. When a receiver steps foot in his zone he is immediately closed down upon. Not only is his awareness incredible in zone, he does a fantastic job of keeping his eyes on the QB. These abilities are essential to being successful in college, because you have to be aware of everything when you are on the field. This is especially the case in today’s game because receivers do a fantastic job of finding holes in zone coverage. With this being said, if you are aware of where all of the receivers are on the field, you can help with coverage.
Mason Stuart
Mason Stuart
Stuart is a really good athlete, there’s no question about it. Stuart uses his athleticism to extend plays and only runs when no other options are available. While Stuart can put some zip on his throws, he’s at his best when he throws the ball with touch. Let me tell you, he can put some beautiful touch on his passes. Stuart is good with his back shoulder fade placement. Watching him lob a ball over the defender and hitting his receiver in stride is a thing of beauty. He can even do it while he’s on the run. It was truly a joy to watch.
Xander Bradford
Xander Bradford
One of Bradford’s biggest strengths is his quick release. He does a fantastic job of getting the ball to the receiver quickly on short throws. Basic skills like this is what you like to see from a quarterback. In college, you need to be able to push the ball up the field no matter how many yards you get per play. Being able to complete difficult short passes will help the efficiency of any offense on the next level.
