Tabancgcura leads all Nevada defenders with 6 INTs through six games. He’s a dynamic two-way player (WR/FS) for SLAM that excels at reading eyes/play development and putting himself in position to make plays in zone coverage. He capitalizes on mistakes and produces turnovers in the passing game with his instincts, awareness, and quick transitions breaking on the ball. He’s an aggressive form-tackler in space that closes ground and attacks ball-carriers low. Tabangcura’s been the most impactful secondary defender in 3A this season.
Maxx Ellermeyer
Maxx Ellermeyer
Ellermeyer leads all 3A defenders in total tackles (82) and TFLs (21) after co-leading Nevada in tackles as a junior (133 total). He’s a lean, athletic LB (6’/180) that flies around to the football with relentless motor. He keeps light, active feet while reading the backfield and can finesse his way through blockers and tight spaces to track down ball-carriers at the LOS. Ellermeyer might be undersized for the LB at the next level but his production and activity as a tackler definitely make him worth a look.
Baalbaky is a talented two-way player for Meadows with 575 yards and 8 TDs at WR and over 45 total tackles and 2 INTs from his SS spot. He plays fast and physical as a tackler and shows sideline-to-sideline range in middle-zone coverage. He breaks aggressively on the ball with downhill burst and shows closing speed in space. Athleticism, instincts, and ball skills at the catch point help him produce turnovers at the second/third levels. Baalbaky’s proven himself to be a versatile athlete with underrated upside on both sides of the ball.
Gavyn Frederick
Gavyn Frederick
Frederick is an active tackler in the run game for Moapa Valley’s defensive front-seven with 55 total tackles (39 solo) and 9 TFLs through seven games. He likes to play downhill between the tackles, can sift through trash to locate ball-carriers, and meets RBs in the hole with punch. Frederick’s significantly improved his tackle production from sophomore to junior season and has flashed promising traits as a run-blocker from his OT spot.
