The top game in a Week 7 filled with huge matchups. A thrilling end to the 2022 version of this game would be enough to keep the rematch circled on your calendar, but add in the fact that Westside and Millard South entered the bout ranked 1 & 2, and the hype gets bigger. Both teams entered boasting offenses that could wear down defenses with a calculated, balanced attack and suffocating defenses that can generate big plays.

The game started with a bang as Westside's [player_tooltip player_id='250300' first='Jordon' last='Hurst'] snagged an interception that led to a [player_tooltip player_id='250052' first='Jahmez' last='Ross'] touchdown for the first score of the game. After the score, both defenses hunkered down and kept the opposing offenses from scoring, Millard South even blocked a field goal attempt. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1031389' first='Will' last='Bauerly'] gave Westside a 10-0 lead with a field goal before the half. An [player_tooltip player_id='250051' first='Anthony' last='Rezac'] touchdown pass to [player_tooltip player_id='318995' first='Keynan' last='Cotton'] extended their lead to 17-0. Millard South would then score 14 unanswered points with a pair of [player_tooltip player_id='319192' first='Dylan' last='Kuhl'] touchdowns including a touchdown reception and a fumble scoop and score. The comeback was short-lived as the Warriors would then go on their own 14-point run with a TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='250051' first='Anthony' last='Rezac'] and a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by [player_tooltip player_id='250300' first='Jordon' last='Hurst']. The final score read 31-14, but I left feeling that this was a game that was a little closer than the final score read and one that we could see again.

It was a tough choice for the player of the game, but cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='250300' first='Jordon' last='Hurst']'s defensive performance takes it home. Jordon had a huge game that started with an interception on the second play and was able to seal the victory with a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown. He has a sixth sense for when the ball is near him and does a great job defending it either with a PBU or making a play on it. Jordon is a smooth DB with fluid hips and footwork. Very instinctive in coverage. His physicality was impressive to watch as he has no issue engaging in hand-fighting with receivers and is a willing tackler against the run. Great player with massive potential— Jordon has been one of the top risers in his class this season.

Tough defense kept either offense from fully taking flight on Friday, however, [player_tooltip player_id='250051' first='Anthony' last='Rezac'] still found ways to make plays when needed. Rezac finished the game with a hard-earned 179 passing yards, 108 rushing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. Anthony made some great throws despite the weather not being the best and made smart, quick decisions with the ball. One of the most impressive parts of Anthony's game might've come after one of his "low points" in the game when a sack-fumble resulted in a touchdown for Millard South. Anthony shook it off, led the Warriors offense down the field, and capped it off himself with a rushing touchdown to extend the Warrior's lead. This calm, unfazed demeanor has been the case throughout his career and is one of the aspects that separates him as one of the top QBs in the state.

Millard South junior [player_tooltip player_id='319192' first='Dylan' last='Kuhl']'s stock has been skyrocketing this season! Dylan had another great defensive game with 10 tackles, 3 TFLs, recovered a blocked kick, and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The best way to describe Dylan's game is "see ball, get ball," with his incredible nose for the ball. Dylan always finds his way near the ball carrier and is a lock to make the tackle when he gets there. He can eat up perimeter blocks to shut down screens and outside runs at the LOS and attacks downhill very well. Very aggressive player. Dylan also came up huge on offense, scoring Millard South's only offensive touchdown off a pass from Thomalla. Lots of attention should be headed Dylan's way!

Senior LB [player_tooltip player_id='250256' first='Beau' last='Ryan'] quietly played a huge role in keeping the Millard South offense grounded. Beau is a physical, throwback linebacker that does everything very well. Beau's football IQ is very impressive to see as he does a great job diagnosing and reacting to plays with a quick trigger to attack the ball. He is very fast when shooting his gaps and finished the game with 4 tackles for loss (8 total tackles), showing his ability to break into the backfield and blow plays up behind the LOS. Great motor— Beau is constantly pursuing and tracking the ball. Surprisingly, he is still overlooked on the recruiting circuit, but I expect him to pick up more looks as the season continues.

Amarion proved to be the most consistent chain-mover for the Patriots as weather and a struggling run game hampered the offense for most of the bout. Despite this, Amarion did a great job getting open and providing a safety target for QB Thomalla. Jackson finished the game as the overall receiving leader with 8 receptions for 104 yards, including several tough receptions through contact or with defenders closing in quickly. Amarion's route running really sticks out when watching him play, he has top-tier footwork along with a great release and explosiveness coming out of his breaks. Surefire hands— near lock to come down with the ball when it's near him. Continues to prove why he's one of the top talents in his class.
