Today, we will be focusing on some sophomore standouts that have established themselves on the field this year. Without any further ado, here’s my list of some highly impactful #TN2026 standouts to keep an eye on in week nine of the season.
At the top of my list of notable performers is Tyreek King Tyreek King 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Knox. Catholic | 2026 State TN , a 6-foot-0, 175-pound wide receiver at Knoxville Catholic High School. King and the Fighting Irish are coming off a 47-42 win over Brentwood Academy last week. What impresses me most about King is his ability to stay locked in down the stretch, using strong footwork to muscle defenders and get in front of the ball on quick passes. Another aspect of King’s playstyle that makes a huge difference is his ability to use bursts of speed to break away into the backfield and get open for deep passes. I also like King’s execution along the edge, showcasing his ability to run efficient routes as well as break tackles on his way to the house.
I am additionally impressed with Jacob Rathbone Jacob Rathbone 6'3" | 265 lbs | OL Page | 2026 State TN , a 6-foot-3, 275-pound offensive lineman at Page High School. Rathbone and the Patriots claimed a 35-7 victory over Hillsboro last week. In addition to outstanding size and speed, what impresses me about Rathbone is his ability to lock in offensively, using his overall strength and his ability to exert overwhelming force on the defense to collapse the pocket and open up running lanes for his teammates. Another aspect of Rathbone’s playstyle that stands out is his ability to absorb pressure and stun the defense with his relentless toughness, buying more time for the offense to move the ball.

Claiming the number three spot on my list is Torey King Torey King 5'6" | 160 lbs | RB Independence | 2026 TN , a 5-foot-6, 155-pound running back at Independence High School. King was a crucial ground weapon for the Eagles in last week’s 31-7 win over Fairview, punching in two touchdowns. What stands out about King is his ability to utilize his size and speed to become nearly untouchable in the pocket, using his electric quickness and durable edge to barrel past the defense into the open field. I also like how King gradually picks up speed, breaking tackles as he moves around the pocket, boosting offensive production on the ground as well as consistently blasting his way into the endzone.

Another skilled prospect to watch for is Will Pressley Will Pressley 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Oak Ridge | 2026 TN , a 6-foot-0, 165-pound wide receiver at Oak Ridge High School. Pressley and the Wildcats earned a 35-7 win in their last matchup against Farragut. Pressley impresses me with his route running from along the edge, utilizing his electric speed and field awareness to remain open for significant deep passes. Pressley additionally stands out with his ability to stay on his feet after the pass, breaking tackles as he dives into the endzone. Another aspect of Pressley that stands out is his physicality and toughness in coverage, consistently adapting to the defense’s aggression to attack the ball in the air and force his way into the backfield.
Coming in at number five on my list is Keeyshawn Schneider Keeyshawn Schneider 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH McCallie | 2026 TN , a 6-foot-0, 175-pound athlete at McCallie High School. Schneider and the Blue Tornado edged Baylor by a final score of 34-31 in their most previous matchup. What impresses me about Schneider is his solid footwork and ability to make a difference offensively along the edge, hauling in quick passes and blasting his way down the field, barreling past the opposition with his durability, quickness and the ability to adapt. Schneider additionally impresses me under pressure, proving he can juke out defenders as well as break tackles as he marches into the endzone.
Also worth mentioning is Kelvin Perkins Kelvin Perkins 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Southwind | 2026 TN , a 6-foot-0, 180-pound quarterback at Southwind High School. Perkins and the Jaguars recently claimed a 42-14 victory over Overton. At the helm of the offense, Perkins has contributed excellent arm strength and precision in the air, proving he can hit his receivers in stride on quick bullets deep into the redzone. Perkins also makes a difference with his pin-point accuracy, showing off his deep passing as he connects with his receivers in stride despite heavy coverage in the backfield. Another aspect of Perkins that stands out is his composure under pressure, getting the ball out of his hands before getting hit with heavy contact from the defense.
