Even if we hadn’t been hearing their names much this season.
Three teams in the zone picked up vital wins that either punched playoff tickets or improved their standing. And these six players were huge reasons why.
Jevon Edwards Jevon Edwards 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB South Aiken | 2025 State SC RB, South Aiken – The real Jevon Edwards Jevon Edwards 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB South Aiken | 2025 State SC has stood back up. After missing outright or being limited for part of the non-region slate, Edwards added to his impressive recent performances with a 250-yard, four-touchdown showing in the region victory over Airport. It’s definitely been more of what we’re accustomed to seeing from the junior, who moved into fourth place in the school’s all-time rushing yardage charts after eclipsing 3,500 career yards.
Tucker Bryan QB, South Aiken – When you understand the assignment, you really understand the assignment. In Bryan’s case, his replacement start to help top-end quarterback Terrence Smith Terrence Smith 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB South Aiken | 2024 State SC recover from an injury meant getting the ball into Edwards’ hands, sure, but also to keep enough pressure off the junior tailback. Bryan completed eight-of-12 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another 23 yards. It was the first career touchdown pass for the expected Day 1 starter for next year. More importantly, it helped the Thoroughbreds pick up a playoff berth.
Traevon Dunbar Traevon Dunbar 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Midland Valley | 2024 State SC RB, Midland Valley – The Dunbar train kept on rolling against Aiken. The senior notched his 19th career 100-yard rushing game by notching 154 yards and three more touchdowns on 17 carries. It was his third consecutive three-touchdown game; for the season, he’s now reached the end zone 20 times in eight games. Clearly, his carries are an indication of lopsided wins, too, but the Mustangs are starting to make sure he’s ready for the playoffs. He hasn’t had more than 17 carries in any game in more than a month.
Andon Hawkins Andon Hawkins 5'7" | 205 lbs | LB Midland Valley | 2025 State SC LB, Midland Valley – The Mustangs’ top tackler made his presence felt again in that win over Aiken. In holding the Hornets to 18 points, Hawkins added 9.5 total tackles (four solo), two tackles for loss, a pass break up and a quarterback hurry. It was the fourth time in the last five games that Hawkins had two tackles for loss, a likely sign that he’s ready to be more aggressive against different types of offenses.
Chanston Crosby Chanston Crosby 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC QB and Nigel Myers WR, Bamberg-Ehrhardt – Everything for the Raiders right now is about handling business and making sure the team is at full strength for the Oct. 27 showdown at Whale Branch. That’s why what Crosby (pictured) and Myers did in the 55-0 blowout over Bethune-Bowman was doubly important. While playing only the first half, Crosby completed 12-of-20 pass attempts for 205 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a third. And Myers was responsible for 102 of those yards on three receptions.
