The players demonstrated remarkable athleticism, strategic thinking, and teamwork, leaving a lasting impression on scouts and fans alike. This scouting report aims to highlight 6 standout performers from week 8 who deserve recognition for their outstanding contributions.
DJ Barber
DJ Barber
DJ Barber recorded 9 tackles, 2 sacks, blocked punt vs Oxford. The one part of Barber’s game that stood out to me the most was his ability to stop the run. When attacking the line of scrimmage, he makes sure to keep his hips square. This allows him to quickly change direction and chase down the ball carrier. On inside zone runs he does a good job of clogging lanes and stopping the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage. If he is engaged in a block, he shows off his violent hands by disengaging with the blocker. This allows him to quickly make a play on the ball carrier if they come his way.
Malcolm Simmons Malcolm Simmons 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH Benjamin Russell | 2024 State AL caught 10 passes for 207 yards & 2 TD vs Briarwood Christian. Simmons has excellent hands, and he showcased them in a number of different ways. He’s great at high pointing the ball and catching it at its peak. He catches the ball with his hands away from his body naturally. This allows him to make someone handed circus catches as he reaches out for the ball.
Navontay Richardson
Navontay Richardson
Navontay Richardson rushed for 264 yards on 10 carries & 4 TDs vs McGill-Toolen. One of the reasons Richardson is so good at gaining additional yards, his feet are always moving. He keeps those feet going which helps him break away from tackles. His busy feet also help him keep his balance while being hit. Keep the feet moving, keep those legs churning and good things are going to happen.
Cameron Jennings Cameron Jennings 6’1″ | 240 lbs | QB A.H. PARKER | 2024 State AL completed 11-of-14 passing for 310 yards & 3 TDs vs Minor. Jennings’ precision and ball placement are attributes that immediately stand out on film. He exhibits excellent touch and accuracy on his throws, allowing him to deliver the ball to his receivers in stride, maximizing yards after the catch. His ability to lead his targets effectively and place throws where only his receivers can make a play on the ball is a testament to his quarterback acumen. Jennings shows a knack for reading defenses and understanding coverage, which aids him in consistently putting the ball where it needs to be.
Highlights
Bryson Riggins
Bryson Riggins
Bryson Riggins completed 10-of-19 passing for 249 yards & 4 TDs vs Park Crossing. To put it into basic terms, Riggins has a cannon of an arm. His ability to get the ball to the receiver through a tight window is very impressive. When he would fit these passes through tight windows the defenders struggled to react in time. This is a skill that will translate well to the next level.
Jonathan “Boogie” Harris rushed for 235 yards on 15 carries & 3 TDs vs Woodlawm. Harris has an impressive ability to make defenders miss in the open field. He is elusive in space and can make defenders look foolish with his shifty footwork. He is a dangerous weapon that can make defenders pay if they don’t take proper pursuit angles. Harris gains valuable extra yards on his receptions and rushes by making those defenders miss. Harris is also a physical runner with the ball in his hands. He is a tough runner who is able to fight for extra yards after contact.
