By now, most teams have a good idea of where they stand – whether they’re poised to make it to the playoffs or building for next year. However, some teams are still hoping to prove their worth in the last week and secure a spot in the playoffs. I will be previewing each game for week 9 by conference for the 5A level. The Intermountain Conference is up next. For each game, I’ll provide a prediction and highlight some players to watch for each team based on their recent performances.
#14 Bend (4-4) @ #3 Mountain View (8-0)
Prediction: Mountain View def. Bend 38-7.
Last week, Mountain View showed their potential by beating #4 Summit with a score of 21-6, proving that they are a serious contender for the state title. Although Bend is a strong football team, Mountain View is one of the top 5A teams and is expected to pull away eventually. With their impressive record, it won’t be surprising if Mountain View secures the #1 seed in the playoffs.

#9 Caldera (6-2) @ #4 Summit (4-4)
Prediction: Summit def. Caldera 28-14.
Summit faced tough competition in Mountain View last week and struggled to win. The team has been struggling in all their games this season when facing strong opponents, resulting in their four losses. Despite that, they still hold the #4 spot in the rankings due to their convincing win against #5 Thurston earlier in the year. While they are undoubtedly a top-four team in 5A, I believe three teams are better than them. This week, they need to be cautious not to underestimate Caldera, a competent team that will make it to the playoffs.

Ridgeview (1-7) @ Redmond (3-5)
Prediction: Redmond def. Ridgeview 21-14.
Although Redmond has been playing in a tough conference and had some close losses, I must admit that their performance this season has been a bit disappointing. I expected them to have a winning record, especially after Jace Eveland Jace Eveland 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Redmond | 2025 State OR , a legit D1 prospect, transferred to their program along with his younger brother Peyton Eveland Peyton Eveland 6'8" | 290 lbs | OL Redmond | 2027 State OR , who has excellent potential. They won’t be able to achieve a winning record this season. Although they should be able to win against Ridgeview this week, it’s worth noting that Ridgeview is a sneakily good team, and if Redmond is upset, it could knock them out of the playoff race.
