Sean Skrydlak Sean Skrydlak 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Creighton Prep | 2025 State NE | DL/TE | 6’3″ 235 lbs
Despite a slow start for the Jr. Jays, there have been several bright spots in the opening few weeks. One of them is junior defensive end Sean Skrydlak Sean Skrydlak 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Creighton Prep | 2025 State NE , who has only improved every week. Playing defensive end, Sean uses his lengthy frame very well when creating separation at the line of scrimmage. He has really stood out as a run defender, where he can hold the edge, while still being able to finesse his way back inside to make a play. Skrydlak does a great job tracking and pursuing the ball and is a sure tackler when he gets to his target. Very high upside prospect who is only going to continue improving as the season (and junior offseason) continue.
Mason Gunn Mason Gunn 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Gretna East | 2025 State NE | RB | Gretna East | 5’8″ 185 lbs
Junior Mason Gunn Mason Gunn 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB Gretna East | 2025 State NE has been a workhorse back for the upstart Gretna East Griffins this season. Mason is a super tough back who can pound the ball between the tackles while absorbing contact and bouncing off defenders. Mason’s vision has been very impressive to watch on tape as he sees the field extremely well with great patience to let his blocks develop. He had several runs in his tape where he moved through his lanes so smoothly that it looked like he was just gliding out there. Excellent burst and acceleration. He is also a threat as a receiving back where he can do a lot of damage with some open space. Make sure to keep tabs on this guy!
Thomas Spears Thomas Spears 5'7" | 145 lbs | ATH Ashland Greenwood | 2025 State NE | ATH | Ashland-Greenwood | 5’7″ 145 lbs
Going into year 3 as a full-time starter, it’s still very surprising how “under-the-radar” Thomas Spears Thomas Spears 5'7" | 145 lbs | ATH Ashland Greenwood | 2025 State NE has flown. In those three seasons, Thomas has consistenly been among the more productive and athletic players in his class. So far this season, Thomas has hauled in 8 receptions for 134 yards, recorded 43 tackles, and broke up 4 passes. The easiest way to describe Thomas’ game is fast. Everything he does is very fast and twitchy. Thomas is very instinctive and breaks on the ball extremely well, with top-tier closing speed. He’s a high football IQ player that can be seen communicating with his defense pre-snap and making smart adjustments. Tackles very well and with good technique. On the offensive side of the ball, Thomas is a very reliable target with great hands, concentration, and is a threat to extend plays after the catch. Very good route runner with clean footwork and knows how to create separation. Hungry, hungry player that can get the job done both ways!
Barrett Wilke Barrett Wilke 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Stanton | 2025 State NE | ATH | Stanton | 6’0″ 205 lbs
Talk about being versatile! Now with QB1 duties, Barrett Wilke Barrett Wilke 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Stanton | 2025 State NE continues to be a do-it-all player for the Mustangs. Wilke’s bread and butter is still to gash defenses with his legs, rushing to the tune of 641 yards and 11 touchdowns on only 61 carries. He is a threat to hit a home run with deceiving speed and acceleration when turning the corner. Make no mistake, Barrett is fully willing to take a defenders head off by dropping his pads or delivering a stiff arm. His legs also allow him to improvise and extend pass plays. Barrett has shown that he can deliver the ball with good timing and had some really nice deep throws that displayed great placement. Wilke hasn’t been asked to throw a ton, only registering 28 attempts, but has racked up 420 passing yards and 8 touchdowns (2 Ints). Barrett’s speed and range shine on defense where he can cover sideline-to-sideline from the safety/linebacker position. High upside as a RB and LB/S at the next level… really just get this guy on the field and he will produce!
