<p><strong>COLUMBIA |</strong> Gray Collegiate coach Adam Holmes has a smaller roster with just over 30 players, but he might have an embarrassment of riches, especially at the quarterback spot.</p>

<p>A pair of sophomores, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='232668' first='Tyler' last='Waller']</strong> (pictured) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='860400' first='Dre'Von' last='Dopson']</strong>, split time and have more than made the most of it. They were at it again on Friday when they combined to throw for 250 yards and four touchdowns as the War Eagles routed Hammond 52-14.</p>

<p>“They understand that is the deal,” Holmes said. “Dre comes and does his thing. Tyler comes in and does his thing. We get to the point where one is kind of playing better than the other, we kind of go with that. Tonight, both guys were making plays, so we just kept working them. At the end of the day, we have two guys that know how to play the system if one of them has to come out. I think they both understand what their job is, and they've taken to that.”</p>

<p>It was Waller that had the hot hand against the Skyhawks. He finished 9-of-11 for 139 yards and three TD passes. He connected with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='91353' first='Jamarious' last='Lockett']</strong> on a 29-yard score, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='139316' first='Zai' last='Offord']</strong> on a 37-yard touchdown and finally tossed a 12-yard TD to <strong>BJ Montgomery</strong>. Montgomery finished with 81 yards and two touchdowns. </p>

<p>Dopson was 4-of-8 for 109 yards and a 64-yard strike to Lockett for a touchdown. Lockett followed up his eight-catch, 247-yard, four touchdowns last week with five catches for 133 yards and two scores. The senior also added an interception that set up another score.</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='997269' first='Kaine' last='Williams']</strong> got into the scoring column with a 76-yard pick-6 late in the first half. He also recovered a fumble as Gray Collegiate produced four turnovers.</p>

<p>It was a solid bounce back performance by the War Eagles defense. Even though they defeated Crestwood last week, they allowed 60 points in doing so. <strong>Charlie Scarborough</strong>, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1359251' first='Zeb' last='Taylor']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='473010' first='Michael' last='Boulware']</strong> are part of a front seven that Holmes has called one of his best.</p>

<p><strong>HAMMOND NOTEABLES</strong></p>

<p>The Skyhawks have a three-man rotation at quarterback. Senior <strong>Robert Malanuk</strong>, junior <strong>Charlie Allen</strong> and sophomore <strong>Ben Muela Kiser</strong> rotate plays, not series. Allen had the best night statistically, going 10-of-18 for 118 yards with an interception and a 48-yard touchdown pass to Jack Croft.</p>

<p>Hammond (1-2) starts playing strictly against SCISA opponents next week and they are the defending champs. <strong>Manny Johnson</strong> and Vinson Holland form a decent 1-2 punch at the running back spot. Johnson scored on a 6-yard run Friday night. Also, the linebacker duo of <strong>Brewer LaMotte</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='947684' first='Will' last='McQueen']</strong> will make things difficult for opposing offenses going forward.</p>
