SPARTANBURG | Broome wanted to play with a physical edge.

Mission accomplished.

The Centurions ran through Woodruff on Friday, churning out 491 offensive yards, including 336 on the ground, in a 55-14 win.

"That's one of the two things we've been preaching all year long," Broome coach Lynn Fleming said. "We want to be physical, and our guys are doing a good job of that all year. Woodruff's a good football team, they really are. They're going to win a lot of games. But our guys did a great job tonight just coming out and executing."

Broome's first play from scrimmage was a 27yard run by sophomore phenom [player_tooltip player_id='473001' first='Jaylen' last='McGill'], and the Centurions continued to pour it on on the ground in the first half. McGill rushed for 120 yards before the break, QB Kamajay Bracket-Brannon added 116, both ran for touchdowns, and the Centurions led 27-0 at the half. The offensive line, led by [player_tooltip player_id='996854' first='Stephen' last='O'Dell'], imposed its will on the Wolverines, while Broome's defensive front caused havoc in the Woodruff backfield all night.

"It was a personal game," McGill said. "This is the team that kicked us out of the playoffs last year, after we beat them in the regular season. We had to come back. That's a good organization over there. They planned for us. They had a great defensive scheme, and a great offensive scheme. We just wanted it."

The second half was over before it started. On the third play of the half, McGill went 54 yards for a score, effectively ending his night and the game. He finished with 174 and two TDs. Brackett-Brannon, meanwhile, rushed for 133 yards and a score, and finished 8-for-11 for 155 yards and two more TDs.

"We came out strong, we came out fast, and they couldn't stop us," Brackett-Brannon said.

Airing It Out

Brackett-Brannon took the opportunity to show off his arm a little bit against the Wolverines. He hit Tre'Sean Suber with a perfectly-placed ball for a long gain that set up McGill's first score, and fired an absolute dart to Tristan Cromer for a TD. Suber padded the Centurions' passing stats with a 69-yard catch-and-run in the first half.

Big Defensive Night

Amid the offensive explosion, Cromer was the guy who had the biggest night for Broome, and he did a lot of it on defense. Cromer's offensive night was ordinary, with one catch for 13 yards and a score. But defensively, he picked off two passes and returned both for TDs, including one for 55 yards to push Broome's lead to 41-0, and another for the Centurions last score, triggering a running clock to end the game.
