<p><strong>How It Happened</strong>: Canadian is the new #1 team in the MaxPreps Amarillo Region poll after beating Bushland, 55-35 at home in a matchup of Class 3A Panhandle powers. Canadian jumped out to a 38-14 halftime lead and held off Bushland in the second half. Canadian QB Camren Cavalier threw 4 touchdown passes, three to Luke Flowers, in the first quarter alone. . .Amarillo stunned Rio Rancho (NM) Cleveland, 28-27, in overtime. Trailing 21-6, the Sandies scored two touchdowns in the final 5-1/2 minutes of the fourth quarter to force overtime. The game-tying TD came with just 35 seconds left in regulation. In OT, Amarillo scored a TD on its first possession and kicked the PAT. Cleveland responded with a TD, went for 2 but the ball carrier was denied at the 2-yard line by a swarm of Amarillo tacklers. . .In another game that went to OT, Frenship denied Lubbock-Cooper's do-or-die 2-point conversion try in OT for the thrilling 35-34 victory. The contest featured five lead changes, four ties and neither team had a lead greater than seven points. . .Stratford led Sunray, 15-0, at halftime before seeing the lead evaporate in the second half. However, the Elks recovered to score a late TD with three minutes left after stopping Sunray at midfield on fourth down. . .Canyon rushed for 308 yards and amassed 467 total yards in their high-scoring win over Perryton. . .Monterey was 0-10 in 2022 but the Plainsmen have started this season 2-0 after defeating Wylie. . .Seminole outlasted Shallowater, 35-30, as QB Wyatt Holmstrom threw for 251 yards and 2 TD, and rushed for 2 more TD. </p>

<p><strong>How It Happened</strong>: Midland Legacy ran the ball a staggering 66 times for 409 yards in their 29-point win over Tascosa. The Rebels had three rushers with 95+ yards – Damien Johnson (103 yards), Madden Milloy (100) and Tomy Johnson III (95). . .Monahans rose to No. 2 in the MaxPreps Odessa Region Poll after beating Andrews, 49-27, behind another stellar performance by QB Cheno Navarrette. . .Midland improved to 2-0 with a 48-13 road win at Lubbock Coronado. Midland didn't complete as pass (0-4) as they ran the ball 49 times for 439 yards. . .Odessa Permian bounced back from a Week 1 loss with a six-point win on the road at Waco Midway. Trailing 21-19 in the fourth quarter, Permian scored the eventual game-winning TD when Juzstyce Lara ran the ball into the end zone for a 4-yard TD. The Panthers then converted the 2-point conversion on a Uriel Montoya reception for the final points of the game. The Panthers needed one more defensive stop to seal the win and they got it. Permian rushed for 270 yards in the game. . .Odessa's first two games have been decided by a total of 4 points. After losing a shootout at Lubbock Monterey in Week 1, Odessa picked up a key road win at El Paso Americas when they drove down the field in the final minutes and Aldric Rivera drilled a do-or-die 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bronchos their 1<sup>st</sup> win of the season. . . </p>

<p><strong>How It Happened</strong>: Pebble Hills scored 28 points in the second half to pull away from Del Valle and register the 33-6 win. . .Eastwood prepared for the Week 3 battle with Pebble Hills by routing Las Cruces (NM), 55-28, piling up 679 yards in total offense. . .Canutillo committed four turnovers and was held to 8 yards of total offense in the first half yet came away with the win over El Paso Coronado with stellar defense. Canutillo scored two TDs in the third quarter on passes by QB Jeremiah Knox. Coronado went for the two-point conversion after scoring a TD with about 7 minutes remaining but was denied. An interception with 1:20 left sealed the win. . .Americas fell to Odessa at home when the Bronchos drove down the field in the final minutes and booted a walk-off field goal as time expired. . .Montwood dropped a thriller to San Angelo Central, 35-33. Montwood had an opportunity to tie the game with a two-point conversion following a TD late in the fourth quarter but the pass into the end zone was intercepted. San Angelo Central took the ensuing kickoff and ground out a couple of first down to drain the clock. . .Scott Veliz is off to a 2-0 start as Hanks head coach after the Knights dispatched El Paso High, 37-20. Marcus Porras was exceptional again as the Hanks QB. </p>

<p>Michael Southern, Montwood: Southern completed 20-of-30 passes for 239 yards in the Rams' high-scoring home loss to San Angelo Central. In two games, Mountain View has scored 82 points and Slosar has passed for 730 yards and 8 TD.</p>

<p>Junior Trotman, Eastlake: Just a sophomore, Trotman and QB Luke Lomeli (233 passing yards) had a nice connection going against Rio Rancho. Trotman finished with 8 receptions for 162 yards. He finished with 174 all-purpose yards. </p>
