Defensive backs who made tackles all over the field, a quarterback who is continuing a hot streak of putting up huge numbers and one Division 1 bound running back made a huge impact for his team last week.
Here’s the Game Balls from Week 4 in the Catawba River Region:
Brayden Woolbright | DB | Clover
Woolbright turned in a solid performance at Dorman last week. He stood out for his play at wide receiver as he made some contested catches and was shifty when he got into space from his slot position. On defense, the Blue Eagles lined him up at safety and he came down hill and made tackles in run support.
Gavin Brandwood Gavin Brandwood 6'0" | 185 lbs | LB Fort Mill | 2024 State SC and Braylon Thomas | DB | Fort Mill
Brandwood was all over the place in the Yellow Jackets’ 25-15 win over Lugoff-Elgin. When the Demons tried to get their run game going, it seemed like he was there to make a tackle for loss. He also had sacks and a deflection on a two-point conversion.
Thomas made a great break on the ball and almost made an interception late in the second quarter.
Turbo Richard Turbo Richard 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Northwestern | 2024 State SC | RB | Northwestern
Richard made his impact known from the first play of the game. Literally. He took the opening kickoff 94 yards to the house as the Trojans routed the No. 2 team in 5A, Gaffney, 49-24 on Friday night. His special teams impact continued with a 53-yard punt return in the third quarter. The Boston College commit also took a run 66 yards to the paint.
Ian Grissom Ian Grissom 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Rock Hill | 2025 State SC | QB | Lewisville
It was another week of video game numbers for Grissom, this time in a 71-0 win over Ridge Spring-Monetta. He can let it fly and has an impressive velocity on his throws – he knows where to find the green grass. Grissom went 16-of-23 for 326 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also ran for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 carries.
Landon Stone Landon Stone 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Clover | 2025 State SC | RB | Clover
Stone continues to have the hot hand as we enter the final week of non-region play. He ran for 234 yards and a touchdown in the Blue Eagles’ 35-13 win over Dorman last week. His quarterback, Jaylon Hoover excelled on throws on the run and can create with his feet. He has a zip on the ball that is fun to watch. Hoover’s final stat line was 12-of-19 for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
Trooper Floyd Trooper Floyd 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Chester | 2025 State SC | QB | Chester
Floyd connected with Antonio Hopkins Antonio Hopkins 5'11" | 180 lbs | LB Chester | 2024 State SC for an 82-yard touchdown. He also hooked up with Reggie Heath Reggie Heath 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Chester | 2024 State SC for a score as well in the Cyclones’ 30-17 win over Catawba Ridge.
DeMaurion Stewart DeMaurion Stewart 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB York | 2024 State SC | DB | York
Stewart (pictured above) was active in the secondary and on special teams in the Cougars’ wild 51-48 win over Rock Hill on Friday night. His motor was running constantly and he didn’t allow the ball carrier to get past him if it was a short yardage play in between the tackles. He recovered a fumble on a punt as well. Najib Yunsuah had a pick six against the Bearcats as well.
