Shemar Welch Shemar Welch 5’11” | 160 lbs | DB McGill Toolen | 2024 State AL has been a super productive DB for McGill Toolen and has not slowed up at all this season. Last Friday, Welch had a standout performance that showcased a wide range of his versatile skills on both defense and special teams in their matchup against Robertsdale. Defensively Welch flew around the field and recorded five tackles, but presented a lot more issues for the opposing offense when he was in coverage. Welch was dominant out in the secondary, posting up two interceptions, one of which he returned for a pick-six. Welch has some terrific ball-hawking instincts and is able to make plays on the ball with great ease. In addition to his contributions on defense, Welch made an impact on special teams with a 48-yard kick return as well. Welch had himself a fantastic game- he constantly was giving the offense great field position with his turnovers and kick return- keep an eye on him the rest of this season!
John May John May 5’10” | 210 lbs | LB Northridge | 2024 State AL is a really reliable inside linebacker for Northridge, and last week he led their defense to a terrific performance where they won 34-15 against Bessemer City. May had a massive presence on the field- you could find him around the ball on every snap. May recorded an impressive 10 tackles, he consistently made open-field stops and was able to slow down the opposing offense’s progress greatly- his ability to read plays and react with the speed that he has does a great service for his teammates. What made May’s performance even more significant was how he was able to haul in an interception. May has great instincts and a fantastic football IQ that placed him in the right place at the right time, and he was able to reap the benefits. Keep watch of May and this Northridge defense this fall, they’re a really good unit!
Nate Thomason Nate Thomason 6’2″ | 205 lbs | LB Helena | 2024 State AL is an explosive outside linebacker for Helena that has been incredibly productive for them the last few years, and last week he had himself a game. Thomason was an unstoppable force on the field in his performance against Chilton County he made a huge impact against their offense by effectively ending a ton of their drives. In total Thomason picked up 11 tackles (4 of which were tackles for loss), and a sack as well. Throughout all four quarters he consistently disrupted the opposing offense and made crucial stops- what truly set Thomason apart in this performance was his ability to penetrate the line of scrimmage, with his twitch and athleticism he was able to fly into the backfield and make a ton of impactful plays, whether be against the run or by bringing down the quarterback. Thomason, a Memphis commit, is set up for a huge remainder of the season- keep eyes on him!

Kaleb Harris Kaleb Harris 6’1″ | 190 lbs | DB Thompson | 2024 State AL is an extremely talented defensive back for Thompson that has shown he is one of the top prospects in the nation at his position. Last week, Harris showed more of his dominance in their matchup against Spain Park where he showcased his elite athleticism and football IQ to make a ton of key plays. Harris was a defensive force on the field, tallying an impressive 10 total tackles (7 solo, two for loss)- he didn’t shy away from contact at all and flew around the field to make some bigtime tackles. The highlight of his night however was his pick-six- he was able to snag one off the quarterback and return it for 10 yards- putting points up on the board. Harris is a highly recruited prospect with a ton to offer- keep an eye on him this season, he’s in a loaded defense that’s a ton of fun to watch.
