The initial Prep Redzone Next Washington 2028 Watchlist is live and will be updated three more times before August 2024. The distinction of being billed as an “ATH” or Athlete means that I feel the prospect either projects to play multiple positions at a high level, or that it’s too tough to tell at this point where they will end up, based any number of factors. Continue to check out each other other position breakdowns.
A fast, physical and talented ball player on both sides of the ball in the Orting High School feeder system. Does a great job catching the ball out of the backfield as a running back, showing off the hands that would make the switch to wide receiver a natural one. Love him defensively as a hard-hatting safety that comes up and smacks in the run game
Highlights
Kennedy is a reclassified kid that should continue to rip up competition across the PNW and nationally. Saw him play last December for several days in a row, and he was a versatile piece that contributed at nearly every skill position. Speed is the thing that separates him from his peers on the field. He’s suiting up for Gridiron AIGA this season.
A really good-looking athlete at 6-foot, and quickly approaching 180 pounds of solid muscle. One of the standouts on both sides of the ball for a very talented HEIR football team. Lines up primarily as a wide receiver but is frequently put in motion. Has the skill set of a running back with shifty moves and vision. Defensively will rock people as a safety right now, but could see a move to linebacker in the future.

The 2028 class at Lake Stevens is loaded across the board this season and Herolaga is a kid that isn’t the first kid that will catch your eye, but he can play ball. Offensively he’s an inside wide receiver that isn’t going to take the top off a defense, but he blocks downfield and he’ll pick up the tough yards on 3rd and 7 for an offense. Defensively, he fits in a nickel role where he can cover in the secondary, but also can add needed support in the box.
Despite recently suffering an unfortunate arm injury that will sideline him for a while, Ronquillo has caught my attention with his ability and fearless play. He gives up a decent amount of height which my be a factor as he advances in his football career, but he makes up for a lot of it by playing 150 mph at all times. Built like a fullback or linebacker, but makes him home as a receiver on offense and a hard-hitting safety on defense.
Highlights
Paine is another reclassified athlete, but he is suiting up for a new team this year. He and Kanai Kennedy Kanai Kennedy ATH WA were two members of a dynamic Gridiron AIGA team a year ago, but this year Paine will be in the blue and yellow of FSP. Last year Paine primarily played running back and had a monster season as the main source of rushing offense. That said, he’s a weapon in the passing game as well with pretty good hands and ability to create after the catch. Defensively he lives for the big hit as a safety, but long term I think his future is as a running back if I had to project right now.
Highlights
Jimerson is an accomplished prospect on both sides of the ball, coming from the CD Panthers Football and Cheer organization. During the regular season(s) of his youth career, he has pounded the rock with a ton of success, often using his speed to hit the edge and pick up large chunks of yardage. He is, and has been, on the smaller side comparatively and running the ball takes a toll, so exploring other positions doesn’t hurt. He has done a good job as a safety, corner and slot receiver as well.
Another 2028 Washington Athlete on the initial Watchlist that can do a bit of everything at the skills position’s, is Johnson-Gonzalez. There’s no questioning his ability to shake, rattle and roll with the best of ’em, but his lack of size is obvious. He’s one of the smallest kids that made this initial watchlist and that is a factor that cannot be overlooked. Offensively, he’s extremely slippery in the slot and moves around a bit to allow him to create in space.
