ATH Antavius Carpenter – Harding
Antavius was definitely the player of the game overall! He had 5 rushing touchdowns along with 2 interceptions defense playing safety. On offense as a running back, Antavius showed some great vision and quick-cut ability with the ball in his hands. Everything he did was decisive and at full speed – that is a special skill when you have the football in your hands! I spoke with Antavius after the game, which you can see right here. Antavius is a Class of 2025 prospect at 5’8 and 160 pounds.
QB Jaquavion Gafnney – Harding
It is hard enough being a freshman in high school, but being a starting quarterback on Varsity as a Freshman is even tougher. But Jaquavion did a good job of running the spread option offense Harding is running this season. He had two rushing touchdowns and made good decisions on his reads and ball handling from the shotgun. He also completed a couple of passes to different receivers throughout the game. He is a left-handed player but showed some good ability to throw to both sides of the field. He also definitely is in the dual-threat category, with good speed and agility with the football in his hands. At 6’2 and 175 pounds, he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on as he progresses.
OL/DL Barak Fuller – Harding
At 6’3 and 280 pounds, Fuller is one of the few seniors on this Rams team and was elected as one of the team captains. He was the most dominant lineman on the field, driving Garinger defenders off the ball consistently and providing penetration while playing on the defensive line. The Class of 2024 prospect has great size and strength, and hopefully will start to get on a few recruiting boards as colleges start up their in-season recruiting efforts.
QB Jeremiah Stallings – Garinger
This Class of 2024 prospect is playing quarterback for the first time out of necessity for his team. At 5’8 and 165 pounds, he threw two touchdown passes for the Wildcats and led a nice two-minute drill drive at the end of the first half where he was able to string some completions together to cut the game to a 19-12 margin going into halftime. He has some good speed and was able to run and create some off-schedule plays outside of the pocket.
WR Kingston Johnson – Garinger
Kingston is a Class of 2026 prospect and he caught both touchdown passes for the Wildcats from the aforementioned Jeremiah Stallings. I liked the fact that Kingston was able to track the ball well in the air and showed some over-the-shoulder catch ability on a corner route on his first touchdown catch. The second catch was a post route on the last play of the first half, which flashes some big play and clutch abilities which is what you like to see from young players in critical spots. Kingston has some good speed and can be a factor in the run game from the receiver position as well.
