DeMatha @ Freedom-Woodbridge
In what may be the game of the week not only in the state but the entire country is this one. Traditional nationally ranked DeMatha makes the trip down 495 to visit defending Class 6 champion Freedom-Woodbridge Eagles. The Stags (2-0) have made light work thus far of Springfield (Ohio) and St. Michaels the Archangel taking care of both opponents with relative ease. The Eagles had no trouble with Coolidge but had to hold on for dear life last week as Varina made a big second half push. Coach Overton’s squad held on for the impressive victory but with a nationally ranked team coming to town they know they’re cannot be any type of let up.
They hype for this game has already been built with Freedom announcing over 900 tickets being sold earlier this week. This has instant classic written all over it, can the Eagles ignore the hype and play a full four quarters? Or will the Stags come into town and show them what it takes to play a nationally ranked schedule week in and week out? Personally I wish I was covering this game because I would like to know the answer to both of my questions above in person, but unfortunately I will not be. If you are in attendance stay camera ready, chances are this game will have coverage throughout the country.
Battlefield @ Gar-Field
The Red Wolves are coming off a 1 score loss against the upstart Gainesville Cardinals and need a win to stop the bleeding. Only problem is the Battlefield Bobcats come to town this Friday and they are humming in every phase of the game. With a margin of victory being over 40 points, the Bobcats are a well oiled machine offensively combined with a stout defense and good special teams. All this means is that Gar-Field cannot fall behind early like they did last week and expect to be bailed out again by quarterback Tre Walden. Battlefield is too good for that and they have championship aspirations on their mind. Watch out for the Binkowski brothers (Cam and Brandon) those dudes can play!
Brentsville @ Millbrook
Speaking of championship aspirations a pair of 2-0 squads will battle at Millbrook this Friday with the Brentsville Tigers coming to town. The Tigers have all state caliber players across the field in quarterback Caleb Alexander Caleb Alexander 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Brentsville District | 2024 State VA , wide receivers Tyler Owen, Nico Orlando and first team all state linebacker Langston White Langston White 6'2" | 190 lbs | LB Brentsville District | 2024 State VA . Millbrook will not care as they are off to a hot start with dominating wins over Harrisonburg and Warren County. Led by defensive end Cole Purdy, linebacker Cohen Creswell and receiver Ryan Hecker, the Pioneers will be ready for the Tigers.
I expect more a defensive battle in this tilt but would not be shocked with a different outcome as they’re is major division 1 talent for both teams.
